Planted 30 Crocosmia bulbs today then got back into hand weeding the shrubbery. I had a late start today as it was raining overnight and this morning.

I've been potting on tomatoes and other things over the weekend and Mowed the lawn with the rotary mower . Cleaned the carb on my cylinder mower yesterday and adjusted the blade but I am still not to happy with the cut at the moment . And watering it not really rained for a good couple of weeks but for a light dusting yesterday . Possible frost this week Q the wisteria is a matter of days from flowering, I'll try and protect it but I don't have high hopes.

        Get well soon @mazambo .

Everyone's cutting / seedling seem to be doing well :dbgrtmb:

Planning on doing some weeding, the left corner of the back garden looks like a jungle with the cleavers growing there and I must get to them before they go to seed.
Was going to do it yesterday but one of our dogs Barley had a upset tummy and had to keep taking him out, but he will be fine in a day or so.

In the last week we have been busy mowing, edging, still clearing tree debris from the last gale (waiting for the wind to drop and be in the right direction for burning the 6ft high and 8ft diameter pile), sowing, splitting, tidying up the nursery areas and trying to observe where all the nesting birds are so we don't disturb them.

The greenhouse (20ft x 10ft) is overflowing and we're working on some of our nursery areas. In the next few weeks we have three charity plant sales to supply, and three lots of people coming to see the garden and buy plants - all for charity.

Some of the areas we're working on

The stick looking things are Zebra Grass that are in great demand so we split those from one of our plants. We have three more overgrown ones that need splitting but but I need someone younger and tougher to dig them out :old: :heehee:

Yesterday I also sowed the first batch of 90 runner bean plants (30 each of White Lady, Firestorm and Polestar). I shall sow another four batches every four days. I sow five to a pot and that lot uses almost a 50 litre bag of compost :rolleyespink:. I'm not sure how much to charge yet and shall wait until I see what the garden centres are charging. I'll most likely charge £1.50 per pot.

Digging out a few decades worth of weeds, ivy, rocks etc and in between tree roots in the border next to the new fence. I'm creating a gentle 'wave' to the edge of the lawn by moving it in (adding old turf) and out in another area. It's really good seeing how moving an edge 20cm or so can make such a visual change.
Plants are going in as I think of where to fit them, not exactly well planned!

I have to pot on some sweetpeas and 36 gazenia plus a load of coleus. Could be a busy day today, or I might bunk off ...

Busy again. The biggest task was completing the hand weeding of our shrubbery. Very satisfying task. Another couple of weeks and I will have to start at the beginning again!

Up until Covid we used to have lots more as we opened our garden for charity at the end of May bank holiday each year. We could sell 1,000 plants in a day. Lots of GC members turned up as well as about 500 others. A lot of teas to make! :rolleyespink:

Today I cut the grass again. Two of the three areas, as the third still has Siberian Squill flowering and I don't want to upset Putin by cutting them down too early. The CEO was planting out Cosmos as well as Fuchsia she had started as cuttings.

Today I sowed another Potato Bag, potted on a Tomato & Hollyhock grown from seed.

Still quite cold so my small Toms & Cucumbers are indoors in the Growhouse.

Not in the garden, but I've been making some Garlic Spray. It was either that or transplant another Hemp Agrimony, so I went with the lazier option! :heehee: Good God, I forgot just how potent a bulb of garlic is when boiled! :thud: Had to open the kitchen door and move away at one stage...

I'm still repotting stuff that is waking up.
Planted out a Isoplexis I grew from seed last year, got 4 others to find space for.
Re earthed up my potatoes thanks to the fox digging around them every night and causing chaos in my onions.
Sat in the garden and just listened, a great time of the year for bird song, mostly black birds now I think.

Nothing much to do on the balcony except the usual daily chore of sweeping away the pigeon dropping. I did empty the pot of Crocuses in which a climbing Nasturtium seed had germinated. I put the Crocuses back in their pot, minus the dead & dying leaves, & hope they will survive till the autumn.

The Nasturtium I put in a ceramic pot where I expect it will be quite happy & in a few weeks time be able to climb up the chicken wire to the strings tied to the balcony railings. I wonder how long it will last till the Cabbage White butterflies lay their eggs on it?

I watered a few plants & checked on one of the variegated Geranium cutting to see if it had any roots yet. I can't see any roots coming out of the soil in the pot so I suppose I will have to be a little more patient & hope they root soon.
