WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY - 2022

Pricked out 107 polyanthus seedlings into cell trays.

 

I've been in the GH and potted on a few plants this evening including the vicious Puya , nipped the growing tips out of various plants.

 

I am impressed and envious. I have a terrible time trying to get them to grow from seed!

I've just planted some primula plants that I bought. And I put them under netting to keep the rabbits from eating them before I've had a chance to enjoy them for a few days.

I dragged my Hibiscus out to the greenhouse, turned off all of the electric devices (to avert an explosion) and put a fogger in there to kill whitefly. I tried to hold my breath but still got a snoot full of the stuff before I got out of there and slammed the door behind me. Cleared my sinuses!

I also set out the cannabis plants in the spots where they will be planted.

And I got my wire cutters out and made a couple of dozen stakes for holding down netting or keeping sprayers upright.

My Shineybrid peppers moved to the small greenhouse near the living room/side exit.

It rained most of the time I was out there and I've had enough so came inside for a fresh, hot cuppa

I sowed them in a seed tray but don't cover them, then cover it with a plastic bag and put in the fridge for a few weeks, then I put it in the conservatory.
If you collect seed it's best for them to be green.

I planted out another load of Sweet peas, sowed some Morning Glory outside and some Aubretia in a propagator.

 

Sowed some Jewel Mix nasturtiums outside in the herb bed and then some Jackpot dwarf runner beans indoors.

 

Between the pigeon droppings & the shower of rain making the balcony a dangerous place to be today I wasn't able to do anything more than check a few Geranium & Pelargonium cuttings to see if they had rooted yet. I'm pleased to say the few I checked did have roots forming so at the end of May I will put them in bigger pots for the summer.

 

Spent the best part of four hours getting the lawns of my front garden back under control. Strimmer first then a double mowing. The neighbouring horses were ready and waiting as soon as they saw the mower, with the occasional nicker to remind me they were there.

 

It's been tippling down on and off all day - but this hasn't stopped me getting out.

- planted up the raised beds - red marigold - orange marigold - night scented stock - bush lobelia;
- potted up a very nice Gerbera Garvinia;
- tidied up the 'going over' tulips;
- supped tea in the potting shed.

Started at 10 this morning - just come back in now.

A good day all in all.

 

I potted up a little mysterious Brugmansia I did from seed (at the four leaf stage) and played around with a couple of other potted babies I am nurturing, an Oleander and a double Hibiscus syriacus. T'other Half planted the Passiflora edulis by a trellis.

 

Nothing today it's been rain showers all day, but there's nothing that can't wait until tomorrow.

 

I popped out first thing and started to plant out some perennials from the cold frame but the rain came on heavy and put a stop to that. After a half-hour in the house, I was champing at the bit so I went out to the potting shed and planted up a hanging basket. By the time I was finished the rain was off so I continued with the perennials. Planted 72 in all. My other half was busy planting out annuals.
After lunch, I was looking for more to be getting on with. I had 6 Foxglove in a pot so I went to plant them in my bit of the garden. I am really struggling for room and the spot, along the fence, where I intended to plant them turned out to be on top of concrete. When the next-door neighbour put up the fence he must have put about a 2-foot radius of Postcrete around each post. I had to find another place to put them.
I am giving up feeding the birds from the bird table for a spell. There are plants underneath it but they are grey with birds trampling over them, detritus falling from the table and guano. Perhaps if I can give them a chance they will start away again. I still have the seed and peanut dispensers there and I will continue to hang the fat balls in the dispenser in the apple tree.

 

@Jocko You must have had a very bare garden to start with as I have noticed you have bought a lot lately in great volume. Have you recently moved into this house?
