Well, set out to pick peas and broad beans. Got bored after about 5kgs of each  It's all very well picking the damned things, but my Mum (pea and bean sheller par excellence) died in 2016, so the more I pick, the more I've got to process, thus losing valuable gardening time  I need staff :roflol:

Sown in October. The way the climate's going, as long as stuff can overwinter, it's much better. I get crops before the silly temperatures strike.

Today was planting white marigolds, watering pots, tubs and some plants in the ground. After lunch, I cut the "Meadow" and then treated it with "Lawn Magic", which I bought from QVC and which I am interested in trying out.

Other than bagging up a couple tomato seedling for my son I haven't done anything else on the balcony today. May, for me, is a bit of a waiting game for me, waiting for the bulbs to finish dying back so I can plant out the summer flowering plants & for other plants, like tomatoes, to grow bigger so I can plant them out at the end of the month.

Cut the grass in the back garden and watered the blueberries and other plants. Just got a new pair of lawn edging shears use those tomorrow.

I had never heard of them either. The CEO found them. Marigold ‘Marvel Vanilla’.

Not much doing today. It has been raining on and off and a stiff wind, albeit from the south. All I have done today is mist the plants in my potting shed and the cold frame. That, and trying to convince the boss that her newly planted Pyrus calleryana 'Chanticleer' Tree wasn't going to blow over!

Potted up the Oenothera and peppers, then watered everything. Still pondering what to put in the Urn planters, so far I have 3 combinations...just have to decide. I have 3 Urns and originally I wanted all to be the same, now not so sure. Hmmm.

I haven't actually done anything on the balcony, other than watering & sweeping away the pigeon poo! But my son Jonathan brought me a few pots of Antirrhinum (Snapdragon) seedlings. I've put them on the balcony table for the moment till I can decide where to put them later.

I don't know if it would look right on a balcony but we keep the pigeons away from our runner beans (200 plants) by hanging CD's over the area. The Cd's are continually moving or spinning and the pigeons don't like the movement or light flashing light as the sun catches them. I'm not sure that would be any Good on a balcony as the light may flash through your windows.

Lemon Verbena is not always hardy but as you live in an urban area it may be OK. Usually hardy down to about -5C but not hardy out our way. We keep ours in a large pot and put it in the greenhouse for the winter. It has survived for 30 years :blue thumb:
