I've had to give up trying to do any digging as the ground is too hard. I can't remember the last time we had any significant rain but have now got the sprinkler out.

Most of my gardening has been mowing (grass is growing like mad now as the morning dew seems to be good enough for it), filling pots with compost for Mrs Shiney to sow seeds or pot on and about 30-40 minutes a day pulling dandelion flowers and the tops of any other noxious plants. The ground is much too hard to try and dig them out. The fork just bounces on the ground. About a week of watering should help

Still no rain here either. I tried putting a support in for a plant yesterday and it was impossible as the clay was solid! Urn planting up today.:)

One of our neighbours has put up a kite up in the back garden in a shape of a large bird and it's black in colour, it's tethered to a metal pole, don't know what it's for but maybe to frighten birds or cats.

Good info, thank you :) I may change tack in that case and have the herbs in a barrel. We did have a lemon verbena for years that was just outside the patio doors, but it got way out of hand - how hard do you prune yours and when?

Thanks @shiney for that idea but it won't work as the pigeons sit on the balcony railings 4 floors above us!

I'll have to take a photo & upload it one day so you see what I'm up against! While its dry it's not too much hassle to sweep the balcony floor every day but when it rains I obviously can't sweep it away! Little rain penetrates very far into the balcony but it's precisely on the drip line that the pigeons dropping fall!

Yes they are used to scare away crop eating pests.....we have several most years in the allotments behind us.

We can always tell when a ( real) bird of prey is near as there is complete silence and not a rabbit to be seen anywhere.

When we had our own birds( they spent their spring and summer days outside) they would squawk and flap their wings frantically long before the b o p was in eyesight. Amazing how alert creatures are to danger.
However I don't rate the b o p kites much ....or it could be that all creatures here have sussed out that they're not real and don't dive down on them. :heehee:

Raining again and blowing a gale. Eventually, I got a brief respite in the rain and being stir crazy I took the opportunity to get out and restart hand weeding the shrubbery. I had sown a row of Zinnia and put a marker peg on either end of the row. Well, I was happily weeding away when I found one of the pegs among the tulips. I had happily weeded half my Zinnia!

Weeding, weeding, weeding, weeding, weeding, ....

Planted some stuff out and moved a couple of things around. It's a touch random so I'll probably move them again next year!

I am completely random with mine and prune to keep in shape. It roots really easily so I take cuttings and keep under cover in case the main plant croaks over winter

Cheers, I will consider that once this one gets going - - it is a diddly wee thing just now, but in fairness the previous one was. Goes nice in a cake is about all I can tell you otherwise...

Taken some more Wallflower cuttings to add to the ones I took last month . I have cut back some of the Wallflowers in the border, I don't actually think any need ditching this year...so far. In which case I probably won't really need them.

Only got round to planting one urn up this afternoon as I decided to do the laundry instead.:heehee:

In the brief time I had in the garden today I sowed another 250 beans to bring on in the greenhouse. If they come up OK that should fulfil the orders I have. :blue thumb:

Thanks I thought it might be.

How do you do your wallflower cuttings? Upsydaisy, I've tried it and they just rot off and smell of cabbage as they are in that same family.
