So sorry to hear that you've lost your plants @Balc ,I will keep my fingers crossed that the remaining ones will survive. You really do have to keep a close eye on the temps, it's seems that I spend most of my time either wrapping or unwrapping all mine in fleece during the Winter months!!

I'm surprised all ours have survived , most are at least 6 yrs old along with a handful of cuttings that I take yearly. Like you we had a prolonged spell of -7c nights for over a week in the run up to Christmas, even tonight we are dropping to -8c. That is why I gave them only a tiny drop of water and only if they seemed to need it today as I didn't want their roots to freeze. I also wrapped the whole lot in an extra sheet of fleece too before closing the frame up. So :fingers crossed:

@Balc sorry to hear that. I don't get any frost in my little lean-to greenhouse. I put bubble wrap on the doors and I've got some big tiles of polystyrene on the back wall and on the sides. I also cover them over with some bubble wrap.

@Upsydaisy I quite agree that closing the door would help - a lot! I remembered last night & again tonight! I still need to wait a bit but it doesn't seem like much damage was done.:fingers crossed:

Despite a -5 night we woke to see a significant thawing of the ice/ frost layer at last. We have a - 4 night tonight and then hopefully the temps will stay above freezing for a while. I won't disturb the border that I'm working on until tomorrow as I have quite a few Dahlia tubers there amongst other sleepers.

I will just do some general tidying today ,sweeping pathways and patios and then selecting the pots/ trays in the greenhouse ready for seed sowing.

I have opened all the cold frames up and removed the fleece ( it will be replaced again tonight).

I have checked over all the potted Dahlias that are stored under the greenhouse staging and all looks fine...I think, as I can't really see much :fingers crossed:

It's so uplifting to see all the green shoots emerging now.:yahoo:

I spent an hour cutting back some laurel on the allotment, but its grey and dismal out there so didn't linger for long.
The ground has pretty much thawed out and the ice on the pond melted overnight.

Planted another 4 scented hybrid tea roses in the front garden. That makes a total of 10 out the front - so expecting a nice display this year. Had 2 roses left over so planted these in the back either side of the seating corner. Moved the new hydrangea on to the top of Alfies resting place. It wasn't planted long ago and given the cold weather - it hasn't yet put out any roots.

Was going clean the car - but the forecast was spot on - it's tippliing down now.

Can't wait to get out there today. Although we've had a below freezing night again our ground is not too bad at all...at least it's workable now.!!
Looking forward to a day outside. :dbgrtmb:

We took a walk around the garden today though it is still too cold to do any work. Everything is so far on. As well as the first of the new Snowdrops we have tulips through, Delphiniums through, Dianthus in bud, even a rose in bud and the wallflower in bloom.
Then we found two ceramic planters (expensive ones!) which had split with the frost. And of course, the weeds are growing like weeds.

Started on weeding and composting the veg plots. One plot uncovered, weeded, composted, lightly forked in and covered again with its weed membrane. Had a look round the garden and wondering how many of the large shrubs/perennials will have survived.

So much in on the move now which brings anticipation and hope for the new growing seasons ahead.:yahoo:

Agree @shiney , we have a few dodgy looking ones sadly, which , with :fingers crossed: , we'll keep a close eye on for now.
