WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY 2023

All done.

 

Also sowed the last batch of Lettuces, Radishes and Beetroot.

 

I have just finished hacking at a large rose that has spread like mad, and flattened the top of a holly bush with a path through it.

6 bags of shreddings.

Now I am all scrit-scratched to blazes. A nice tin of beer and a microwaved cheese sandwich has been extremely helpful.

 

Not much in the garden recently other than picking plants up from the relentless rain / wind . My wood turned up this morning for a pergola build , I am full of a cold at the moment it nearly killed me moving it weighed a ton and it broke/snapped my truck.

 

I wouldn't say that my steep bank border has been a bit neglected this year, but came across two hare's 'nests' on the ground when clearing weeds. That answers the question of whether it was a big rabbit or a small hare that my female cat proudly deposited in the middle of the hall way the other day
After 13 years of leaf fall from the deciduous trees and shrubs the soil is just beginning to come round to something healthy looking There's even a quite large space for some autumn planting thanks to the departure of a yellow-stemmed willow and lots of tatty Euphorbia. So much for my resolution to stop buying plants

 

Picked the red currants.

 

I've picked all mine too, pretty small harvest compared to last couple of years. I still have loads of redcurrant jelly though so I'm not too bothered

 

Started picking the red currants but have to fight the blackbirds for them.
Covered up the rest of the blueberries with fleece to stop them.

 

Have you pruned them?

 

Just repotted my lemon plant, it had an ants nest in the roots which was slowing it down.

 

I have small beans coming on my runners, the French beans have no flowers so far, is this normal shiney? please.

 

Not sure if normal applies anymore, whether its climate or politics I cant say... but mine have grown 6feet up canes, turned and grown across 2 feet and are now heading back down. A few buds are now colouring up over the entire height... is this the new normal?

 

Picked some gooseberries and blueberries, now it's raining.
