Moved all the big Lillies back out to the borders now that the awful winds have taken their leave of us.

Good morning all. I didn't do anything yesterday but I did spend an hour watering & deadheading in the church garden. All the Calendulas are flowering but needed to have the seed heads removed. The African Marigolds are flowering nicely, too. The Cosmos seedlings I put in last of all are growing very well. I noticed 1 or 2 have buds so during August there will be a fine display! While I was doing the Calendulas I also cut out the plants of Sweet William that have finished flowering.

I met the mayor of Huntingdon yesterday! He came to see the balcony! A counsellor had nominated the balcony a couple of weeks ago & yesterday was judging day! We chatted a couple of minutes while a crew from the gardening department were putting big concrete flower planters around cash machine almost outside our block of flats. I asked him about it & he told me a couple had become spare & they were relocating them around town. He also mentioned they were there not just to brighten up the area but also to make it more difficult for thieves to "lasso" & cart away the cash machine!

Pulled out the early lettuce and replaced with plugs of white and purple sprouting broccoli. Picked a few more shallots that had fallen over

It wouldn't last long here, it must be a nightmare for the
people who have to fill it up with notes, they are all in buildings around here and attached to walls, and they still rip them out with JCBs.

Weeding and lots of it! Also dug out 50 or so oak seedlings (they're everywhere), watered the pots and took the family out to dinner for son's birthday :)
Mrs L has popped out so I've been able to have a nice potter in the garden . Having just put the outside light on I was bombarded with a couple of hawk moths gorging on the white flowers in front of the house and an aerial display of bats (not eating the moths. Yet.)

Transplanted a Brugmansia (unknown colour as done from seed ) and mistaken moved a Tibouchina  so will have to move it back later early evening when the sun has moved around. Also potted on some Adenium obessum seedlings.

It's potting-on time on the terrasse. Always a challenge to get big climbers on trellisses out of their pots and into bigger ones, so OH gets roped in to help. Stephanotis into a half-barrel on wheels freeing up largish pot for Jasmine grandiflorum. Chonemorpha (I'm going to have to find a more memorable common name for that!) will probably go into a second half-barrel, although it's a big leap in size and will be huge fun trying to fit everything under the roof in the winter.
The only 'real' gardening at the moment is the eviction of a Billbergia and badly-placed orange Canna to make way for the Colocasia 'Black Magic'.
