I bought some sludge buster stuff to put in the pond so I'll do that as well.
Its brightening up as I write.

Hi I changed tactics this year and rotorvated my veg plot, put in 3 year old composted I had in my compost bin then rotorvated that in.
I was a bit late and planted veg in may from greenhouse, well I first noticed my runner beans were a lot bigger anywhere up to 18” long and still tasty. The tomatoes are a good size but all are still green, the beats and doing very well.
The rhubarb is going good, but my potatoes while taste good the harvest is low so I’ve left them for a bit.
Now last year in my poly tunnel everything I planted failed, so I have another compost bin that is 2+ years old so I will use that in the poly tunnel.
My feeling on this new peat free compost is it’s not very good, we have had repeated failings.
So as green waste is now charged for, I have upped my compost pile and will increase its capacity 100% by next year.

Hopefully, will cut off all the tall hosta flower stems that have turned to seed, looking really ugly. the smaller hosta's I leave alone as the birds seem to be able to eat those.

Good morning I was standing at the back door when I suddenly thought why don't I dig another small bed at the other side of the steps then it will match the other side so:smile:

Went to see my friends Marion, Baz and Geoffrey. We all went to Geoffrey's and did a bit of weeding and i got Marion to plant some poppy and eurigeron plants in the garden.

Here I'm only watering & deadheading! There's not a lot else I can do for the time being! I need to remove the dying flowers from the Petunias daily & while I'm at it the Geraniums as well. I've pulled out a couple of stems from the Peruvian Lily. They have lovely flowers & I'm glad I bought it!

I also tap the tomato flowers & remove any side shoots I find. They are looking really good now even though they are growing in peat free compost. This is the first time I've used it & practically all my plants now grow in this kind of compost. I've not noticed much difference from the compost with peat except perhaps its a little too open & the surface seems to dry out a lot more than in peat based composts. All my plants seem to be happy in it so I, for one, have no complaints about it!

My plants are ok with the peat free compost as well @Balc yes the surface does dry out but that's fine.

I only stuck my nose out of the balcony door yesterday about 10pm to see if the sky had cleared or if it was still raining! It was very cloudy but not raining so we weren't able to see the meteor shower!

I didn't go out onto the balcony all day yesterday! Nothing needed watering & deadheading is not very nice when all the plants are sopping wet!

Mrs Shiney has been doing lots of cutting back and weeding and has filled four wheelie bins in the last three days. I didn't do too much after mowing the other day as my back told me off for trying to lift too many things. Yesterday I just went round pulling bindweed that had grown up through the shrubs, so didn't need any bending down, and filled a 32litre bucket jam packed with them.

I picked some tomatoes from my out-door plants, and cut some yellowing leaves off, and some big ones too, they were too big so I cut them off.
And then I tied the stems on to some canes.
Then I put some sticks to hold the shoots on my re-growing Akebia which I transferred from the garden to a large tub a few weeks ago. It died back complately and now is regrowing :dbgrtmb: I'm hoping it will twine itself along some trellises by next year

Virtually nothing in the last week or so, due to daily rain. It's great for the garden, but it would be lovely to have a day or so per week of unbroken sunshine.

Due to rain, I made a large batch of garden soil and grass seed to fill the bare spots left on my new lawn area.

The sporadic rain will do the watering for me :)
