I'm just off into the garden to pick more beans. Now that the plants have got into the swing of things, rather late this year, I shall have to pick them every day.

Picked a lot more red and white currants to put in the freezer, don't know what I'm going to do with them yet, i do make a mixed fruit compote and some go on our breakfast and i make a summer pudding but all year round. But i didn't want them to go to waste.

A wonderfully sunny, warm day - such a tonic after weeks of grey skies and rain. I watered pots and sat in the sun, soaking it up. Lovely!

Those little blighters are good at hiding!

Yesterday, late afternoon, I started picking black berries and got about 3lb before back stopped play. Mrs Shiney shall continue doing it today. I'm waiting for it to get a bit lighter before doing the morning harvesting.

I've put the sprinkler on the second part of the veg plot (did the first part yesterday). We still have the ground cracking up after almost no rain this month. They're showing a possibility of rain tomorrow but we've learnt not to believe them. :noidea:

Newsflash:- harvesting is postponed this morning as the farmer is harvesting the wheat field behind us (near our veg plots) and the air is full of dust. I'll leave the sprinkler on until he finishes so that it washes all the dust off our veggies.

They've been doing the fields around me this week too, it's quite pleasant to watch.

We tried to have lunch in the garden yesterday. The wasps had other ideas, so beating the retreat within minutes, the sun also disappeared. The best-laid plans of mice and men...

@ChrisM6 We all know that wasps kill green fly, caterpillars etc. - but it is hard to appreciate their worth, when we get stung! (shudder) :yikes:

Always know when harvesting starts around here, the bird feeders suddenly don't need refilling so often.
The last few weeks it's been twice a day, but the last week or so it's been once every 2 days.

Yesterday, once the combine harvester had moved about half a mile away, I turned off the sprinkler, waited half an hour, and then picked unmucky crops.

This morning I have done two hours of mowing. There was very light drizzle for five minutes immediately after mowing but it is now dry and the sun is coming out. I'm taking a break now but if the rain keeps off I shall pick more beans.

I have now spent an hour picking beans and then trimmed the edges of the lawns I cut earlier. After that I trimmed the new growth on the willow so that we aren't constantly being hit in the face by the branches as we walk past. I then picked up another 10lb of windfall apples :phew:.

The weather forecast that gave us a Yellow warning for this afternoon has been, once more, proven wrong with us having brilliant sunshine and it's very humid. The wind has been fairly strong. The Yellow warning has now been moved to tonight!
