This is more like what I did yesterday, having had a wet Sunday it was fine Monday evening so watered greenhouse plants that needed it and began to move plants that are beginning to die back onto the benching out of the way so they can dry off gradually and I don't water them without thought.
Also moved in some pots of tuberous and bulbous plants for the same reason. When I get time I will probably take the bulbs and tubers out, dry off, check condition and then repot in dry compost.

Sounds like a good plan Nigel, I must make a start doing the same too very soon. Thanks for the reminder.:blue thumb:

As we've been away a week there is lots of tidying to do. We have filled our three green waste wheelie bins and topped up six of our neighbours' bins. They get collected today.

I shall have a lot of branches to clear that have come down in the gales but it's still too dangerous to get near them.

I've picked up 70lb of windfall apples :phew: with much more than that too rotten to use. Those will go on the compost heaps.

I have been using my Vacuum/Blower/Shredder on the Apple tree leaves and emptied in the compost bin.

I've not been able to do anything on the balcony either. As the wind, & rain, is from the SW we are getting lots of rain on the balcony! My poor plants are having to learn to swim - or drown today! The hanging baskets are so full of water they are streaming! The pots on the balcony railing will have to wait till tomorrow morning before I can get out & empty the saucers they are in.

Just been up to the greenhouse to open the door and the louvres a little to allow the air to circulate.
Two large dahlias in pots had blown over (D excelsa and D imperialis), in the garden the two tallest stems of the larger D imperialis had been blown over; the interesting thing is that in less than 24 hrs the growing points had all turned through 90° to continue growing up.
Stood the pots up and will carefully pull up and tie up the D imperialis later. Expect all the stems will have kinks in them from now.

I've been tending to leave any plant pots that fall over and have noticed how quickly some plants do a 90 degree turn back into a vertical position.
                      Others don't.

Yesterday planted more wallflowers along the path and harvested the last of the tomatoes and then put the plants in the compost bin. When i was doing that i had the top of the bin off and there was a robin eating the worms.

Yesterday I had to empty & remove all saucers & plates under the pots on the balcony railings & floor to let the pots drain after so much rain the day before.

Today I took some of the Geraniums & Pelargoniums off the balcony railings & moved them to the kitchen to overwinter. I brought in those I only have one plant of, as although a week ago I took cuttings from them I don't know if they will root. Rather than leave the mother plants at the mercy of the elements I decided to bring them inside.

Tiny finishing bits to the greenhouse and a few cuttings and deadheading.
The kids have been screeching at each other most of the day so I've taken myself off to the office with a beer and the rugby :)

Mowed lawn for what I assume will be the last time this year. Chopped up the corn stalks with a lopper. Hoed the bed that had them to prepare for garlic planting soon. Pulled up the last of the courgettes. Looked at the mass of chickweed in my autumn salad bed and went home for a cuppa.
