I have just potted up some Jade plants a friend sent me. I just hope I can keep them going for more than the two years the plant a brother of mine gave me some years ago, it lasted all of 2 years! I probably killed it from overwatering it!

They can become impressive after a few years, given a good sized pot or trough.

Here is mine a couple of years ago. I think she will be 40 next year, a cutting from my sister. She never bloomed in the UK (Bucks in a Conservatoryy) but blooms yearly here.

              That's an excellent one.

At my previous work, there was a glass topped two storey foyer with some steel stairs on the right, and a "balcony corridor" going left at the top, with large trough going along, maybe 12'/~4m long, 2'/600mm wide, with 1'/300mm of soil in it. It was full of jade plants, most 2'/600mm high. My guess is that they'd been there since the building was made, ~35 years. Magnificent. One day someone came in from a party, and used them to relieve "hydraulic pressure", before being removed by security. Aboiut a year later, the gardening department pulled up all the plants and removed the whole trough, and the floor was carpeted. Gone. A real shame.

I hope yours continues well, with a more conventional fertiliser from time to time!

                  I have never fed mine.

That is awful. In my last job I worked in such an atrium and took in a Begonia arhenteo-guttata ... but when I left three years later it was up above the mezzanine. So I took a cutting and brought it here. It lives in The Jungle Room and is about 6 feet tall.

I've got two plants of what i call money plant in my greenhouse, they originally grew from leaves that fell on the gravel floor years ago and I should get them out as I could do with the space but they have been there so long now that they are old friends.
They flower every year and I've never watered them, but obviously they have a free root run.

Is that the same as a jade plant? I have heard them called that too, but there's also a "money plant" a bit like a nasturtium.

I have done something in the garden! On the way to get some firewood, greatly and stupidly daring, I detoured to look at some rosemary cuttings potted back in the summer, with plastic bread bags around the pots to keep them moist & humid. Two surviving, to say their feet were wet is an understatement, so I rolled the bags down to let water out but still act as shallow saucers. Now back indoors wth my leg up and that is where I'm staying until 7!

Here we go, the old common names problem, yes mine is the same as the Jade plant.
But I've used the common name money plant most of the time for Crassula ovata.

Cant someone get you some firewood into the house, you will end up with hypothermia if it gets colder.

It's always dropping 'leaves' and we pot up loads and sell them. :blue thumb:

I keep saying that I will turn it round every so often but never do. :noidea:
