WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY 2023

Well yesterday I did manged to get all the perennials cut down in the back garden and shredded up for the heap .

Today after popping round to mum and cutting back her perennials and planting some Eremurus .I set into some more bulb planting I got quite a lot planted last week but still got a lot to go as you can see . Didn't get to may planted just a few tulips lilac wonder / allium His excellency its find somewhere to plant them without assaulting some other plant / bulb is a problem.


Got these rather expensive tulips even on sale planted hopefully they come up

 

More time in allotment, mainly clearing up but also grabbed a few more barrows of manure and topped up a bed with it.

 

Lovely afternoon out in the garden just doing a general sweep and tidy up wherever possible as the ground is still quite saturated. Desperately trying to avoid walking across any of the lawns.

 

Been pruning back trees and shrubs, lots to do so will be ongoing probably until Feb depending on the weather.

 

Had another day of bulb planting, lost quite a few daffodils to narcissus fly . Didn't buy enough tulips either oh well . Planted most of the pots up now just a few to go .

 

Nothing today it's raining and it's too wet to walk on the grass.

 

Hi,

I was late getting into the garden this afternoon due to a friend visiting this morning. At around 2 o'clock I donned my heavy outside clothes and headed up the garden; I completed a few small jobs on the rotavator then dragged it out of the garden hut and fired it up; with the carburetor adjusted and the petrol tank filled I gave it a try and WOW I'm delighted;


It's a shame to get it dirty.

It was scrap when I bought it and it's proved a difficult restoration; I'm used to restoring machines which comes easy to me but the problem with this has been lack of time and many interruptions hence it's taken a long time to complete. I fully stripped it when it arrived but then felling trees and repairing bungalow subsidence etc got in the way; I do everything entirely on my own then I have full control and don't owe any favours.

What joy to let it power itself up the steep garden to the top meadow.

The meadow was fully covered with thick low grass; this is just one pass with the rotavator this afternoon but it became too dark to carry on.

Two teething problems; I hadn't tightened the petrol tank set screws also a linkage still needs a split pin but first impressions are brilliant; it's a professional type of rotavator and built when such things were made to last; sorry about the picture it was almost dark when taken with with a strong breeze and light drizzle for company. This was a trial run but it broke the grass up a treat; next pass will be deeper.

I can now relax and possible have a bit of spare time to practice playing my violins. I'm happy with the outcome and now have a rotavator better built than modern lightweight rotavators.

What, thats defeatist! Especially when you have a spare pulley and space for a dynamo. Next task, fit a headlight......

It's raining again so nothing today.

 

Caught my twentieth mouse of this autumn/winter. Found a very rootbound potted oregano i forgot about and split it into four . Noticed my broad beans have just started sprouting outside and all varieties of garlic have started sprouting in the green house at least. Someone had a drone down the allotments and was doing flybys with it, noisy things

 

Nothing done on the balcony or in the flat today - it'll be the same tale for a few more weeks I imagine so I might just as well save myself the effort & not post here till I have something to say that's been done!

Hi,

Same here @Balc I wouldn't be at all surprised if our rear garden isn't wearing the bungalow roof this morning given the terrific wind and rain coming up the valley; it's unsafe to go outdoors and it's pitch black.

It's taken ages to restore my petrol rotavator and now due to our dire weather I'm unable to use it.
