We were really frosty this morning after it dipped to -3C but if you wrap up and keep moving it's fine. I think I just need to be outside :). Hubs wants us to go out somewhere this afternoon but as we've been out again every day so far I had to say no...I need to be out doing things in the garden. We still have frosted areas but thankfully due to the recent thaw over the last week or two nothing is frozen now.:dbgrtmb:

We were out this morning filling a bucket with small bits of roofers' debris (before they clear it all way) to use in the bottom of pots and planters. Plenty of slivers of roof tiles.

Just sifted, warmed up the compost and sowed 60 more Cleome seeds ( Caroline's as I have faith in her 's :blue thumb:).

Hubs will not be allowed anywhere near them this time.;)

I've started tackling the large apple tree this afternoon. I've been avoiding a hard prune but it's just got to the stage where it's too big. At some point it's been done before so I'm taking it back to around there.
          This is the start...

Made some potting and seed mix from some Coco coir bought from Morrison's last year when they were selling it off cheap, 70p a block. Mixed it with a few handfuls of perlite, multipurpose compost and a small handful of q4. Makes for a very nice mix and have sown all my onions today, white Lisbon for spring , hytech and santero for keeping, walla walla for a sweet one and zebrunne for banana shallots. Also sowed another 60 modules for some salads to try and get a crop or two from the greenhouse before the tomatoes go in. Will sow the ones for outside in a couple of weeks

Still leaf relocation. seeing a lot of my early daffs appearing now. have to nag husband to partially move some of the wood chips that the tree cutting people dropped some too near a hugs daff circle, he's not going to love that chore. maybe he will have to rent a bobcat to do it. such is life. and too many sticks down on front lawn, will need a walk about for that. suppose to be dry this weekend.

                Finished the pruning. I think.
Kids are cross with me, wife is cross, everyone is cross! Had to be done though; I want to reduce it further really but don't think the family will let me

Today my good lady lifted some Daffodils and put them in a tub (actually the old pond which sprung a leak during the hard frost). She also planted some Begonia tubers in hanging baskets.

                    A) Tell them in future they pick the fruit
                    B) Ask for 4 replacement trees for next birthday
Apples at height are not apples, they are a liability
Last house had Bramleys so high I could see over my neighbours ridge when climbing for the top fruit- even at 80p/lb not worth the risk .
                    Windfalls were pulp!

Caught another mouse in the allotment shed, replaced the wires that hold up my apple cordons, went to home bargains or b&m (I can never remember which is which) and picked up some liquid feed. Doff tomato feed, vegetable feed and seaweed extract, they are £1.99 each which is a fair bit cheaper than the likes of homebase

Had a look around the greenhouse, turfed out some more casualties. Cheered up a bit by shoots coming from some things that I thought might not come through.
Then outside digging over more of the compacted area left by the tree surgeons.

I bought a maiden apple last year in preparation for this ancient tree being replaced. Ive finally decided to plant it between the pruned tree and the wonky one, they'll be roughly 6 metres apart.

You've done a beautiful job there, Loofah, given the familial restraints  When all the main branches sprout lots of shoots, you'll need to select the strongest and rub/cut out the rest.
