Coir from Morrisons, reduced at 70p instead of the silly £3.50 they wanted for it normally. Then I mixed it 50/50 with some MPC. Can recommend the coir, it's very clean and holds water great

Also my onions are showing how age matters when it comes to vigour at germination. 4 varieties, I suspect at least 3 years in age between the seeds

      I'd get some at 70p!
I used coir a couple of years ago and quite liked it as a growing medium but I'm not a fan of the supply chain

Turned the compost heap today, had hoped that I could spread it but it needs a bit longer. Should definitely be ready in a few weeks. Loads of worms in it at least

Another day without doing anything on the balcony! At least this time I have an excuse as we are at our daughter's house for lunch and I had spent a couple of hours shopping downtown during the morning.

Dug over another area of veg bed and then pottered in greenhouse. The cold wind made the greenhouse preferable.

I didn't do anything on the balcony yesterday! But I did spend half an hour putting down some of the bags of old compost from the hanging baskets, I emptied out during the week, alongside the main path that leads to the main entrance of my church. I'd weeded some of it a week ago & covered that area with old compost from the balcony. As the weather has turned colder I couldn't be bothered to do any more so I just put a couple of inches of old compost straight on top of them! Some will no doubt push their way through & will have to be removed in some weeks time. Hopefully after Easter when the weather has warmed up some! As the wind was blowing some of the compost around I got a couple of cans of water & gave the lot a good soaking! Should help keep it in place until we get some proper rain - if not I suppose I will just have to water the compost again!

I'll mention my Saturday. Had a trip to a tip with hubby (full car of garden waste, backseats folded). Not making the same mistake this year, will gave a go in autumn too, not leaving till the Feb.next year. Very happy! It's all the waste that doesn't get into composting bin. Cherry laurel branches, ivy clippings, dead bush, cordyline leaves, tomato plants etc.

Sowed another lot of seeds today mainly Lobelia - cleome - diascia and some odd others . I've left some in the propagators to long a tad leggy but they'll have to do. It a bit cold out and about but sun soon warms the GH up usually after I've finish doing what I were doing in there, I were going to pack up sowing my hands were getting to cold for fine seeds but powered through :pathd:.

I went out on the balcony for a few minutes this evening & I looked in the mini-greenhouse to see if the Calendula seeds I sowed a week or so ago were showing any signs of life, I'm glad to say that they have just started to germinate today! :dbgrtmb: Now I'm looking forward to seeing the tray of African Marigold germinate soon as well.
