I have Shasda daisies too and sowed some for her yesterday. Much more refined in the thug department, quite agree

Snow! Surely not, we want warmth for plants to grow. Tell the snow to depart at once USER=18518]@burnie[/USER].

surprisingly I have been potted up dahlia tubers! Had a count up and 170 in greenhouse now plus trays of dahlia seeds. So, that’s quite a few dahlias to go somewhere

I've got Ox Eye Daisies in a pot and they never stray from there. I try to sow the seeds every year and last year I had a few seedlings but only two survived the winter.
I don't know why they won't grow in my garden, the hedgerows all around are full of them every year.

I watered my cacti and succulents today, the first time since October. I usually water them around New Year time and again in February but it's been so cold this winter that I thought it best to keep them dry.

I had everything out from the large lean-to coldframe for a health check and watering.

Also carried out base scrape tests on all the Hebes.....still not a 100% sure if they're dead or alive, one is definitely alive and kicking and looks remarkably good. I have a horrible feeling all the rest are deceased.

When I decided to experiment this year in moving all our seedlings out into our unheated greenhouse a few weeks ago I was full of optimism. This is the earliest I have ever moved seeded trays and germinated seedlings out into the greenhouse.

However the nerves have set in as our temperatures start to drop away tonight. upload_2023-3-26_18-6-15.png

I spent an hour wrapping the lidded trays up in alternating layers of fleece and newpaper. Then I stacked them all in the bubble wrap enclosure half of the greenhouse.:fingers crossed::fingers crossed:

Now that everything is shut up and I've come in ......the doubts are setting in.

A sleepless night is on the cards.

@Dahlia Queen I know I said that I love Dahlias.....but not as much as you that's for certain!!:roflol:

@Michael Hewett you are very lucky with your O D's....yes they do spread by their roots so obviously being pot bound stops that but the worse bit was their seeds!!:yikes:

We both have nightmares still....they ended up all over our garden ....in the lawns between paving slabs in the shingled paths and in nearly all the borders.

They still pop up everywhere , I spotted a load the other day that needed urgent extraction.

Shasta behave much better and stay in their mounds.

I hope your seeds will be all right @Upsydaisy, here we're supposed to be going down to 3 C tonight :frown: That's why I never sow seeds before mid April.

Shasta Daisies always die on me. Last year I grew them in a pot but they still died in the winter. Heleniums the same, I'm not going to grow them again, I'll keep to what likes it here.

Picked the last of the parsnips, pulled out and chopped up the brussels sprouts stems and spread some fertilizer around the garlic.

                          Thanks Michael.:)

I still sowed the seeds at the same time as I normally do, the only difference is that they left home at a younger age......mean mummy that I am.:heehee:

Amazing that there is somewhere where Oxeye Daisy doesn't conquer the entire garden @Michael Hewett. Such a thug for most of us. I try to keep mine in pots too and replace gradually with shasta daisy. Poached egg plant is fairly rampant too. Looked today and it is creeping across the lawn, in the gravel and the slabbed path. Good for bees and hoverflies so I don't mind but will take some out after it has flowered.

I do have rather a lot of dahlias this year. Bought about 30 and the rest were presents. Lucky me!
