That's a good idea @Retired, you never know what will come up.

A good job well done, @Retired, we are all getting on a bit & have to modify our workload! I'll be 73 in a couple of weeks & have also started to rein in the heavy work on the balcony! I got rid of 3 long plastic troughs I had on the balcony for 21 years! They were backbreaking, I mean that literally! Changing the compost twice a year, putting in seasonal bedding & bulbs had got too much for me now! I miss them but they had to go anyway as they had started breaking up which made changing the compost more & more difficult in the narrow confines of a 1m wide balcony!

Over the last week we have got a lot done. I continued weeding the large rampant area, about 600sq ft, between the two veg plots. Then cut back the 70+ year old purple sage (the trunk is about 3" diameter and the plant was over 6' wide) so that I could weed underneath it. There was lots of strawberry weed and hundreds of self-seeded escaped garlic with green stems about knee high.

I continued cutting new edges on some of the beds in the less controlled areas. I couldn't do a proper job on them because the roots of the surrounding trees wouldn't allow me to do so. Mowed everywhere and then filled three wheelie bins with weeds dug out of the front garden.

We have also been splitting up Hostas (didn't realise how hard it is to cut some of the stems away from the clump) and made 30 plants for people that had ordered them. :blue thumb: We have orders for about another 100. Mrs Shiney took four trays of plants to the plant sale at one of her flower clubs on Tuesday and shall do similar for a gardening club next week.

I filled up the boot of my car (plus rear seats folded down) and took a couple of hundred plants to the charity garden centre. I also sowed about 200 bean seeds this afternoon and have put another 200 in to soak in readiness for sowing tomorrow. :phew:

Today we rescued another hedgehog. It was snuffling about the back garden, midmorning, so the boss picked it up and we put it in a huge empty planter. After feeding and watering it (it ate more than our cats do) I phoned the SSPCA. A chap came out to pick it up at lunchtime. He checked it over and said it had an injured back leg so it will be off for care and recuperation at the Scottish Wildlife Centre. That is the second one we have rescued this past 12 months.

As it's been mostly pouring with rain today I've just been squashed up in the remaining miniscule area in the greenhouse potting a few more trays up.

So much water about, our side lawn is now a swamp!! I drained one of the two connected water butts as they were overflowing.I expect the other 4 were too but I wasn't up for dashing around the whole garden getting soaked. The greenhouse ones were the only ones I was prepared to do ,I fitted the length of hose onto one of the taps and ran it off under the back hedging.....still got soaked enough!!

Planted my newly bought Lewisia and Saxifraga with some Sedum and Semprevivum into a rather pretentious looking bowl planter. Gravel, artfully arranged stones and the lot... :heehee:

I started my morning by chopping branches from a tree trying to invade and steal the sunshine from my solar panels. I was wearing one of my more attractive pairs of jammies but since it was only 6 a.m. , there was no one around to appreciate my garb. :heehee:

Rearranging netting to block rabbit munching on my few veggies was surprisingly easy. I'm usually struggling with tangled cords but this time, things went smoothly. :th scifD36:

I made a new wiring harness for a couple of solar panels that I had rehung yesterday and I now will be able to fully utilize the free energy.

Potted up three yellow cannas which number two took home. Put 5 mature cannas on the front porch. 3 are red and the last two are 2 yellow.

Then number one son and family came by and two hours later, number two son and his family came by. Luckily I had just finished making a double batch each of hot pepper buns and plain ones so that I had enough to share with both families, my own bread box and three neighbours.

And the rest was just brain work. Trying to figure out what I need to do next without chancing the lives of my seedlings. The brain did not cooperate so there shall be more pondering..

Finally the sun found us just after lunch and it's been beautifully warm.
I deadheaded all the fading Hellibores, leaving just one or two blooms on that had fat seed pods on them.

Repotted some houseplants a couple are very poorly looking so :fingers crossed:.

Cut back ( for what it's worth) a bit more of my Dad's very dead looking Lemon Tree. I saw on an earlier Gardeners World prog. that Monty's looks as bad as mine....so I'm in good company.:heehee:

Also chopped a bit more of the Avocado???? ....umm.......... Stick, for want of a better:whistle: word.

Too embarrassingly awful to post pics.....I might post a before and after if they miraculously survive.
