Thanks for everyone's kind words :)
I think I walk too fast for my bad hip and two knees and I often bump into things, and sometimes fall. It's difficult to slow down.

That's a good idea for the tomatoes @Logan

I know how difficult clay soli is @Upsydaisy, a friend of mine had a whole garden of it and it was so difficult to dig, especially in the summer.

@Michael Hewett Sorry to hear of your accident! :yikes: I had a sort of accident myself - nothing physical but I knocked a whole seedtray full of pots of Fuchsia 'Garden News' cuttings I'd just potted up in the kitchen! They fell off the balcony table & I had to repot them all over again! :rolleyespink:

It's annoying when something like that happens @Balcony, I hope they'll be all right.

            Hi,

WOW keeping up with Cleavers is a full on war; clear them one day the day after lots more appear with about 6" on them; if I don't keep up and they seed then it rapidly gets worse year on year. I've scrapped our 37 year old petrol mower it not worth my time any longer to repair so I'll be using my petrol strimmers in future; over the years I've kept reducing our amount of grass coverage and now aged 75 I've had enough of dragging a petrol mower to the top of the mountain; I'm sure strimming will prove less stressful.

            Kind regards, Colin.

I planted 2 Toms in their final position in one Blowaway, the rest are so slow.

My shed roof has a leak, I don't feel up to doing this repair. Age UK Handyman charge £18.50 per hour, is this too much?

A local handyman has just refelted my shed roof for £70.00. I bought the felt and nails at B & Q.

Definitely not expensive but you might find cheaper. Do AgeUk provide any guarantees etc?

Managed a little weeding and to cut the grass. Most of it anyway before the spanners came out again to fix another thing on the ancient mower
Am now in the market for a replacement, so if anyone has a recommended battery mower for med-large lawns that would be aces :)

This morning I spent half an hour repotting some Geranium & Pelargonium cuttings. I'm very disappointed at the length of time it's taken them to root! I had to throw a couple away as they still didn't have any roots! I have lots of Pelargonium cutting that I want to move on - they have only to the end of the month to root so I can pot them up. If they haven't rooted by them I'll throw them away. I need to take down the mini-greenhouse on top of the balcony table & then the table itself! I had hoped to be able to do it this weekend but now I'll wait until the bank holiday weekend.

Apart from potting up some Geranium & Pelargonium cuttings on the balcony this morning I went over to the church gardens & put in the last 2 trayfuls of Calendula seedlings I had been growing on the balcony for the church gardens. I tend to forget how different it is to work in clay soil as I'm accustomed to working with bagged compost on the balcony! I spent the better part of 2 hours between weeding & planting out the seedlings! I even took my own water to water them in when I had finished!

Seeing the photos I realise that it's not clear what I did today. The last two photos, though I took them today, were actually planted up a couple of weeks ago.

The first 2 photos show the Calendula plants I put in this afternoon. There is a small bed just in front of the main entrance & it was there that I weeded & planted the 2 trayfuls of Calendulas! Hope that makes things clearer!

I planted my onion seedlings and bought pea plants in my newly repositioned raised bed.
Saved a little fly from drowning in a dish of water I put on the patio for Bella.
Did a lot of watering - it's been so dry lately (not that I'm complaining about that)

Yesterday planted out French and Runner beans, , added canes and watered. Laid out new capillary matting in greenhouse for tomatoes. Watered in greenhouse as necessary.
                                Showed colleague around garden.
Today prune back a couple of bushes that are moving into their neighbours space, more greenhousey stuff. Then weeding or something else I notice needs doing.
