WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY 2023

I'm puzzled too. Does the dough kill them because they "blow" up with yeast or what? I make bread every weekend so I might put a small piece of dough somewhere away from the plants to see if anything happens. Maybe I'll have some bloated slugs soon

Today I go to the hardware store to purchase some lumber, wood screws and one stomp stone for a place to step in the vegetable area. I like visiting these stores as there is always something new on display. I don't buy much but I do enjoy window shopping. This one also has a garden center.

 

Well, I thought I'd lost 4 out of 6 blueberries, but when I came to empty out the pots - there are tiny shoots emerging at the base of one of them :-) (I did scratch stems of others, but very dead) What is the best feed for blueberries please? They are in ericaceous compost.

Took several pots of Daffodils to the church gardens but was only able to plant half of them. I now have some big empty pots on the balcony! But not for long!

 

I am intrigued as well. Given that the only 'remedy' is ferric phosphate pellets, which seem to be ignored while plants are available, I shall roll some pellets in a dough mix to enhance their flavour. The phosphate pellets are based on pasta flour, perhaps its the yeast that they crave. Will report.
PS Is the stomp stone for slug despatch?

 

Sowed some wallflower and sweet william seed. Also some more lettuce seed to replace thestrip of lettuces I was going to plant out last weekend, but disappeared overnight; pigeons I think as there weren't even stumpsleft.

 

Started planting out the cosmos, snapdragons and some gladioli that i started in pots.

 

Planted out a couple of Cosmos and 2 x Tom plants in a Blowaway House, 1 x in a smallish pot the other in a large pot, lets see which produces the more fruit.

I had to come indoors as the Sun was very hot, still it is around midday.

 

Hope it’s ok to jump onto this thread, I have a Hydrangea Macropylla with green/ burgundy leaves that I bought as a bargain from a garden centre, quite big in a 12L pot. Planted it the end of March when it was a mass of sticks and a few new shoots. It now has an incredible amount of leaves and think it will flower around July - see photo below
There’s a few new green shoots among lots of woody older growth - should I be cutting out some of the wood to get a a bit of air and light down at the base ? If I did this there would still be plenty on it. I know I sound like a real novice, should I cut back the tallest stems as well as crossed stems to give it a better shape ? I did some pruning before all the leaves grew but I don’t think I took enough out
The plant is near a fence and has partial shade /sun

 

I'd leave it alone, you will probably end up reducing flowering if you cut it back now.

Planted up a large container with verbena bonarences, snapdragons and 2 fuchsias that I'm training as climbers, haven't done that before so curious how it will turn out.

 

Planted out two lavenders (Hidcote) and watering/feeding later.
