WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE GARDEN TODAY 2023

Not properly watered the allotment this year and as everything has taken off and we've not had much rain I thoroughly soaked the entire plot. Also re seated two water butts that were looking a bit dangerous. Pumped up the tyre on the wheel barrow and that made quite a difference in ease of use
Also planted out the green beans and runners

 

Well, in my defence it is a holiday weekend

 

My didn’t show either and this time I’m stone cold sober!

I spent an hot afternoon creating a bombing target for the pigeons; I polished the car.

Due to the return of an arm/shoulder injury there's very little I can do in the garden at the moment. Yesterday I sprayed the weeds on our long gravel drive - it's hard bending to pull them by hand. This evening I dragged the hose up the front garden and gave everything a soaking as it's parched. It's been weeks since we had any decent rain here.

I also spray weeds where it would take forever to pull them out; I use Pistol Herbicide;

Hi,

I've just looked out of our kitchen window to see a pigeon perched on the handrail with reflective tape at each end of the rail and CD hanging from the rail; these pigeon scarers are a total waste of time and effort. GRRRRRR.

I wonder if my pressure washer will put out a pressure water jet to reach the top of the tree; these dirty birds could do with a bath.

Apart from watering prickled seedlings and other plants... Halloween decorations . It's when you want some red currants for yourself.
Annoyingly blueberries are the next in a queue for decorating...

I have a suggestion for the pigeons, I know it works having seen the evidence, but it's noisy and will probably upset the neighbours.

In Inverness there's a large 'The Range' shop unit and since it opened a few years ago it's been plagued by seagulls breeding on the flat roof and making a constant mess and noise. Early last year I spoke to a falconer in the car park. He'd been hired by the shop to fly one of his birds of prey twice a week to scare them away. It worked, but of course when he left the seagulls returned. Then late summer the shop invested in a recorded scarer - the call of a bird of prey, and it's played continuously through speakers outside. The seagulls have gone, not one to be seen since then.

 

@Retired This is how I feel towards the pigeons that foul the balcony all the time as well as me!

 

Perhaps I should do the same to try & keep them away! Only they are on the balcony railings 4 floors above us! As our balcony is a little wider than those above us their dropping fall at the drip line which is where many of my pots are & I sometimes get an undesirable gift from them!

Could you not rig up a type of shelf on a diagonal to divert the droppings away?

I had thought of doing that quite some time ago, @Sheal but I haven't done anything because it would be very difficult to put anything at an angle so that the droppings slide off. Besides which the birds would likely land on it and their weight would bring it down.
It's worse during the winter as the pigeons roost on the balcony railings of the flat 4 floors above us.
