    Just come back from the plot, went to have a quick look and I still have standing water everywhere. Amazing really as my plots have slight inclines to them. So no digging for a while.

    Into the tunnels tomorrow then.

      I normally grow around 300 strawberries + loads of loganberries & raspberries, and last year made about £200 from selling excess fruits (still loads for ourselves to eat and make jam/wine) and potted up runners.

      Is all that mulch black polythene? I use vast amounts of it to cut down on weeding and also use Mypex.

      Are you fencing just against rabbits or is there also a deer problem? (I have to fence against rabbits).

        How much space does your 300+ strawberries take up, please?

        Yes the black stuff is black 100gsm weed fabric and the fencing is for rabbit control and to allow my dog to have run around.

        I place 1 strawberry plant every 18" (45cm) in each direction. So you could get 300 strawberry plants on a plot 50 x 15ft.

        My loganberry has spread the width of my allotment, hoping to get some fruit this year.

          Liked your plot!

          Sad to see so much water still hanging around!

          Is your soil ' free draining' will it soon drain off?

          I like to get my digging and prep work done before Xmas as I find it makes it so much easier to get on the land in spring.

          Particularly if it is a wet one!

          This is a typical January for me;

          Tee gee, glad you like my plot, the soil does normally drain quickly and everyone comments on how good the soil looks but the last few months the water has been draining downhill into my plots.

          Far too cold to go swimming in my allotment!

          If it dries out a bit, I'll mulch the whole plot with the "heaps" of horse manure piled up at the allotment entrance, then dig it in as I go along?

            Most of my rhubarb has been grown from seed. This year we'll see if it has been a success or failure as the popular opinion is. I was rather surprised to see some of the plants in 4" pots shooting, I never got around to putting them into 3 litre pots.
