I use the Kindle app too on my laptop. The only drawback is that I used to give a lot of books to charity after I'd finished with them which doesn't happen now. The good thing is that there are loads of freebie downloads. I thought the free ebooks would all be rubbish but not a bit of it. I've read some crackers.

I don't mind a kindle and have the app on my laptop and use it occasionally, but I do prefer an actual book. They're so cheap in Tesco I usually stock up with a few when I go to the UK and I also get some from the Book Depository as they deliver free, especially if I've found a new author then want to get their earlier stuff. There's nothing nicer than the postie turning up with a parcel of books you're dying to read.

Much prefer a book than an e-reader. Probably just as well as one of my favourite places to read is when I'm soaking in a bubble bath. Or, lounging in the garden (and books don't run out of battery :heehee: )

I'm reading two books at the moment: autobiography (Dawn French: Dear Fatty) and a historical novel (Lady of the Rivers: Philippa Gregory) alternating depending on what mood I'm in.

I finished one of the books i got for xmas last night. It was Tess gerritsens new one called Playing with fire.

Its about a women who buys an old music book and finds a hand written loose sheet of music in there, when she plays it bad things happen and she thinks her 3 year old daughter is trying to kill her so she goes in search of answers. The story is split between modern america and italy beginning in 1938 and through the war. The story based in italy is a love story as well as a war story.

The whole plot is based around this peice of music.

Its not her usual kind of book and i would say its not one of her best but its an easy read that you want to carry on reading.

What makes it a bit special tho is Tess actually wrote the piece of music the book revolves around so at the end it tells you where you can hear it/buy it. Im not a massive fan of classical music but i think the peice is beautiful and makes the book better being able to hear the music from it.

Bernard Cornwall's The Warrior of the Storm, the ninth in the series, This sees the main character Uhtred as an older man now, not the 'pretty boy' of the recent The Last Kingdom tv series but still riding around chasing Danes.

I've been reading the same series on my Kindle @strongylodon, but refuse to pay out for the latest book in the series until it comes down in price. Bernard Cornwell is a great writer and never fails to keep me turning pages. The fact that he's reached book nine in this series without the story line dropping off is amazing. :)

I'm currently reading the third book in a new series about a young boy/man whose life is challenged by the fact he is a longbowman during a period of time in England when they were banned. 'The Broken Realm' written by Wayne Grant is the third book in 'The Saga of Roland Inness'.

I'm reading four books at the moment.

                    Two are novels:-
Michael Connelly's The Closers, which is one in a series of books about Harry Bosch an LAPD cop. He has moved to the unsolved crime unit and Michael serves it up as one of his usual fast paced thriller.

Tom Clancy's Full Force And Effect, another in his series of extremely well written, but lengthy, books of suspense, intrigue, international politics, terrorism etc. that blends realism with intricate plotting. He's written many famous books, some of which have become well known films such as Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games, Clear And Present Danger, The Sum Of All Fears etc.

                    Two are non-fiction:-
Tobias Dantzig's Number, The Language Of Science: A Critical Survey Written for the Cultured Non-Mathematician (That's the full title :heehee:). I won't bother to give a summary.

Daniel Hannan's, How We Invented Freedom & Why It Matters. This is an entertaining read on one man's ideas on the history of freedom and how the British developed it.

You're last book above looks to be an interesting read @shiney . I don't know if I could get through it though, not being my own and usual subject of interest.

                      Is Daniel Hannan Manx descendant?
