thank you Sheal. I guess if the RX100 will "really" be the only camera I will ever buy, I guess I should just lean toward getting the better of them. Still pondering. Maybe I can get a deal on it, if I go down to the state of Delaware, there you pay no taxes. I guess both are good for flowers also, which of course I have to use for them. Still have my cheap Kodak camera.

I'd go back to the supplier and have both cameras in front of me, make the comparisons with both again and if that didn't help to make up my mind I'd go with the camera by feel and weight. In other words, is it comfortable to handle. :)

I found a place near by that sells cannons, so will be going to check one out.

I have Canon cameras and wouldn't buy anything else. A word of warning though, the manuals (camera instructions) are next to useless.

that may be a selling point not to get one. Hopefully by next week this time it will be all over with. Thanks for hanging in there with me. There is one more place I want to look at, at any consumer reports I can find on cameras. The library stocks them on shelves. So perhaps (if I remember ) tomorrow morning on a drive down past one I can briefly stop.

Had a Canon 40D dslr with 100-400L lens and couple of other lenses, took excellent photos but it all got a bit heavy for lugging around so I sold the lot to downsize and finance my next camera Micro four thirds Panasonic GF1 when they first came out. Good little camera but I ended up buying 3 lenses for it and was back where I started again.

Sold up and bought the Sony RX100 Mk 1 when if first arrived on the scene, for a point & shoot it is a superb camera and quality is almost as good a some dslr's, ok it will never beat a Canon L lens or other camera makers top of the range lenses but it will give them a good run for the money. RX100 Mk1 is the best camera I've ever bought and I've been delighted with how little effort is needed to get a quality photo. Beauty of it all is it can fit inside my shirt pocket.

The Mk 3 version is out now, probably with a few more bells & whistles also expensive, I don't think I'll be changing anytime soon.

Thank you @auldreekie Finally I got to the library and found consumer reports issues. The Sony is in the top three, and the Sony 100 and 50 are ranked the best for traveling . I have to get back to the store.

Hi Redstar, Glad it helped, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a link but here goes anyway http://www.photographerslounge.org/forums/105/
This link which I frequent now and again is all about the RX100 Mk 1, 2 and 3 with plenty of sample pics if it helps you make your mind up.
Couldn't see a PM message area Mod's, if link is not allowed then apologies and remove it please.

thought I would have this bought by now. have got to get to the store this weekend. life just busy. Just took my car in for inspection, cost me $1,300 dollars to fix. well guess the kids get no inheritance. Hell, just whip out the credit card for the camera this weekend. LOL.
