The most comfy cars were the Vauxhall Carlton, but most recent was the BMW 740i which was a dream to drive very quick (to quick ), 0 to 60 about 4.5 seconds depending when the wheels can grip the Tarmac. Tv, heated seats, premium sound, to name but a few but without a good battery you will have electric problems.

When I was visiting an excellent osteopath with my hip problems prior to getting new ones he and I were chatting about car seats and how important it is to have good ones if you drive a lot. At the time he said Discovery seats were about the best out for backs as you got very good lumber support.May say my current car has bucket seats and are leather so you shoot about a bit on them as a passenger, fine if your hanging onto the steering wheel, but no doubt rubbish for your back! Luckily I don't do the 30 odd thousand miles pa I used to.

I guess we are in a similar position in some ways. Being jaded also means that I have become more particular about choosing cars, and therefore more opinionated. I know whats right for me, and whats wrong. After driving some of the cars mentioned so far in this thread, sometimes for longer periods, they would never even be allowed to sit in my drive...

One of my front brakes jammed on on Sunday. Car still got me home but now I have to find out how to fix brakes. :(

Normally, however, I swan around in my trusty van. :) :)

@wiseowl - what a lovely colour! I wish you and Mrs Woo many happy miles with your new car :)

@kindredspirit - what a gorgeous car! I had to look a bit closer to be sure it is a Healey. Is it still on drum brakes, or has it had a conversion?

Fat Controller. As far as I know they always had 11" Girling disc brakes on the front and drums on the rear. (It's a Mark 1.) One of the brake callipers got so hot on Sunday that the paint on it has all bubbled. :(

Seized caliper then - reasonably easy to sort out to be fair - whip the wheel off, unbolt the caliper (you might need to use a mallet to persuade it to let go of the disc if it is seized on), then lift it up so you can use a brake hose clamp to stop all the brake fluid from escaping, then unbolt the brake hose from the caliper. Thereafter, you can get it on a bench (aka kitchen table :snork:), strip it down and refurbish it (new pistons and new seals and a lick of paint) or send it off to a professional company that refurbishes calipers.

Don't forget that brake fluid is nasty stuff, and will strip paint off etc, so wear gloves and properly clean up any drips or spills. Oh, and don't forget to bleed your brakes once you refit the caliper. I would strongly suggest that you replace the pads as a matter of course (do both sides as an axle set), check the discs for scoring and replace if needed, and finally don't forget a wee dab of copper grease on the back of the brake pad to prevent any squeals.

Failing that, I would advise that you PM me for my address where you would be most welcome to deposit your Healey and donate it to a loving new home.

One of the few useful and educational things that they did on Top Gear was to test the relative inflammability of petrol and brake fluid. They had a proper Mini with its engine warmed up and threw petrol into the engine bay, it sizzled a bit but didn't catch fire. Then they threw in brake fluid - RIP Mini.
