          I don't eat them in casseroles or roast but they certainly go well in a cream soup with other ingredients. :blue thumb:

                Tonight, yes we eat late, is chicken curry (again )
                We do indulge with other continents :snorky:
                Spaghetti carbonara last night, wow! Delish but sooo many calories :rolleyespink:
                The chicken dish I’ve made tonight is low cal. It’s a Balti style curry, ( I was always suspicious of not frying spices ) but I really like this !

                  @shiney those two beef burgers affected my tummy something chronic for two days so wish I hadn’t bought the dam thing now:mad:

                  Mrs Shiney will have to eat some carbs because to eat no carbs at all she will have to live on lettuce leaves and they say if you eat no carbs then it can be dangerous to the body as the brain needs carbs to survive :noidea:

                  I made the mistake the other day of having my lunch then had some Victoria plums and two hours later my numbers were up to 10.0 so looks like I can’t tolerate plums any longer:sad:

                  The upside of trying to go low carb is that I have managed to lose 4lb in weight now which is good for me.Some people go as low as 20-30 carbs a day but I wouldn’t want to go that low but it seems to work for them:biggrin:

                    @Kandy sorry to hear you've had a tummy upset. We never buy premade foods as I like to see what goes into my meals. :noidea:

                    Mrs Shiney does get Carbs as she eats Pecan nuts. They're a very good and healthy nut to eat but aren't cheap.

                    @Loki Some spices are much better when fried if you want them whole in the meal. You only need a teaspoon of oil to fry them in but if you're frying onions you just drop them into the hot oil about 15 seconds before putting the onions in. You can release the aromatic oils from most spices by dry frying (usually called dry roasting) where you put them into a dry very hot frying pan and toss them around for a very short time - then, preferably, grind them. Cumin and coriander seeds are excellent done this way but require different timing. e.g. cumin takes only 15 seconds (shake them around in the pan) whereas coriander takes at least twice as long.

                      Planning to have something labour intensive (we like cooking fiddly things together), fatty, salty and hot. It has been one of those days :biggrin:

                      The available ingredients consist mainly of bacon and pancetta, assorted vegs and cheese. Hmmm... pancetta wrapped in bacon? :ideaIPB: Chillies stuffed with pancetta and cheese (and wrapped in bacon..)? Possibly not quite that fatty, salty and hot if we aim for a long life.... :scratch:

                      No, I'll have to keep looking for inspiration, thanks for this thread btw :). Any ideas are most welcome!

                        You could get the sour, sweet, salty, and loads of umami with a dipping sauce! I try not to do fatty , there’s enough of me already :redface:
                        Tonight I’m doing, for me, salmon.
                        He’s still out and won’t starve :snorky:
                        Thai style salmon....
                        Poached with chillies, garlic, ginger, lime zest and juice and a bit of veg stock.
                        Once the salmon is cooked drain the stock into a pan, add fish sauce and soy, reduce.
                        To serve....
                        In a bowl place some steaming hot basmati rice. Place your salmon on top and pour over the yummy sauce !
                        If anyone is going to complain it’s not authentic , I did say ‘Thai style’ :snorky:

                          In the end this turned out to become puff pastry twists with cheese, bacon and chilli, and "empty the fridge"- soup. Very nice soup :) we chucked the teeniest weeny baby plum tomatoes from the garden in at the last minute, so that they just warmed up but retained the shape. A handful of (bought) mangetout and the humble soup was a treat with the sinful pastry twists.

                            Hi @Loki , your Thai style salmon sounds delicious! I'm always on a hunt for new salmon ideas, as a Nordic person I tend to cook it quite often :biggrin:

                            We had a rather nice one some time ago, involving coconut milk and salted peanuts. Not that marvellous to save the recipe apparently, but a good idea.

                              Ive cooked salmon two ways tonight!
                              My son had it pan fried with Cajun seasoning sprinkled on it. It was served with buttered new potatoes and salad, he loved it !
                              Mine is still to be cooked, I know it will good though, the stock smells delish :biggrin:
