            I made chicken breasts with basil, lightly breaded and cheesed, then baked in the oven. Black and white rice and Mangetout peas 'Shiraz ' from the garden.

            Cherries with a Morello ice cream.

            Lookout waistline !!:yikes:

                    I was in Sainsbury's this afternoon and rescued a piece of rib of beef from being dumped. It's 'sell by' date was today and they'd reduced it by 60%. So it fell into my basket. It was big enough to be able to cut it in half and freeze one part.

                    I also rescued some chicken quarters that were on the 'sell today' shelf so a complete change of planned dinner occurred :blue thumb:

                    When I got home I mowed most of our lawns and then, at 7 p.m., started cooking. I've made enough chicken soup to last a week and had it with noodles. That was followed by the roast beef (with plenty left over for sandwiches for two days) accompanied by roasties, one and a half pounds of freshly picked runners (between the two of us) and I also made a large saucepan of spiced rice. The rice will last a few days as well (it's never recommended to keep boiled rice but the spiced rice is OK because it's also done with oil that the spices and onions are cooked in).

                    This was followed by freshly sliced nectarines and mango - bought quite cheaply in Aldi on the way back from Sainsbury's.

                    I had to take my friend Ahmeds car back to him at his kitchens (he owns a Tandoori delivery business) ........................
                    and ended up with a mutton Biryani (suitably spiced) with some of the "staff" potato and chick pea curry on top. Mutton is sooo good for hearty curry dishes and superb cooked in the Tandoor oven.

                    Which leads me to what we were supposed to have. Steak sandwiches, with ace bread, water cress and horseradish.

                    Friday was a triumph - gnocci with my "dry" (see below) tomato sauce, water cress, crispy bacon and Wensleydale shaved over the top.

                    Dry Tomato Sauce;
                    Half some cherry tomatoes and sweat down in a pan with a little olive oil, splash of cider vinegar, pinch of salt and sugar and some nigella/onion seeds. Takes about ten minutes to do - add a wee bit of water when needed to keep it slightly viscous.
                    It's not a wet sauce.

                        Lamb Balti and Chicken Shasleek from our local take away , a large bottle of Tsingtao Chinese beer and a bottle of red wine. Hoping to have a BBQ today if this howling gale will drop a bit !

                          Homemade Pepperoni pizza. First attempt and went really well. Don't think we will be buying the frozen ones again.
