These are pretty good for lightly flavouring things. Although they are sometimes, incorrectly, sold as 'onion seed' they're actually the seed of Nigella Sativa. In most parts of India it's known as Kalonji. They're small and black with, some people say, a slight oniony taste but, unlike onion seed, they're more of a pyramidal shape. They are quite often used on Naan bread.

In a lot of Asian countries they're considered a miracle cure for almost anything!

I use them a lot - in my version of Pilau Rice, in baked beans, in sauces, sweet potato and butternut squash mash, the list goes on.

Once went to Doc (Indian) who told me this.
I had chronic sinusitis and he said he could give Antibiotics or I could try Nigella seeds first.
As I try to avoid Antibiotics wherever possible I went for the Nigella seeds and ....... It works. I add them in with salad dressings and sandwich fillings, in bread mix etc.
I also nibble on them in between meals instead of snacking now.
I have gone from almost constant sinusitis for 5 years + to having 1 acute bout last winter, lasting a week.
Obviously, if you have infection, see your doctor. Don't just self medicate.
I don't want to be on the front page of the daily mail accused of a nigella seeds scandal!

Mussels in tomato sauce and pasta for tea followed by homegrown strawberries (Cambridge and alpines) with vanilla yogurt for dessert.

Today we are having slow roasted leg of lamb with roast spuds, carrots, and runner beans.

For dessert we shall probably have either home made raspberry, blackcurrant,or gooseberry/elderflower cordial ice cream but haven't decided at the moment which one it is going to be:snork:

Whilst listening to our local radio station one day last week there was a discussion about home cooking and a website was mentioned for anyone interested in home cooking.

            It is ......www.letsgetcooking.org.uk

If you click on the bit that says Cooking at Home a page will open up and you can get all sorts of recipes for all types of meals.I have only had a quick look but love the fact that it also lists how many calories, fat, etc are in each meal and even tips on each recipe page of extra ingredients to add or how best to do something...Happy Cooking:smile:

That reminds me of a funny incident many years ago. We were on holiday in Greece and had got friendly with some German people. At dinner our friend mentioned that I had hollow legs and they looked under the table at them! :loll:

After Douglas Baders' escapades Shiney, who can blame them for checking lol!

Chinese takeaway for tea - poor form for a Sunday, I know.
Kitchen being decorated, so cannot cook ATM!
Prawn fried rice - not great.
We had a really great Chinese takeaway near us - fantastic veg based dishes everyone hooked locally.
Sadly, shut down by environmental health - hygiene issues!
                  Looked ok in shop front.
Shame food was good and my immune system strengthened at no extra charge.

Saturday's supper was a nice grilled burger, garden tomato slice, and sweet slice of onion, between good bread, mayo, and spicy mustard. The special part was the meat. Had my butcher grid together a chuck roast and brisket, so yummy, all it needed was salt.
corn on the cob as a side, fresh from the farm.
Sunday, been marinating some country pork ribs, which will be grilled with BBQ sauce later today, fresh green beans, and cheesy rice.
Both of course went with a good chilled martini, and white wine.
Its almost 4PM here. I think it is martini time. cheers.

Tonight I had spare rib of pork with parsnips, runner beans and yorkshire puddings :) it was so tasty that I am going to have the same tomorrow night, quite possibly the night after that and also the night after that!!!! When I find something I like I often eat the same meal for weeks, does anyone else do this or do you always have something different?
