Nope. My mum didn't waste a scrap of food.

From what I remember boiling the bones got all the last scraps of meat off the fish ... add some vegetables ... and hey presto. :D

:thumb: Spent most of my childhood with my Grandmother who was a cook born near the end of the Victorian era & she taught me to cook.. She was actually a wonderful cook.. Everything was homemade in those days for us...We used to have things like, Tripe & Onions. Fish Morney, homemade faggotts, Rock cakes..! Not something I like now...:) She never wasted a thing. Bones etc were all boiled for stock... I seem to remember food did taste in those days too...!!:D Oh good grief I just remembered one I hated.... Salted beans....!!!!! OMG I hated them with a vengence...!!!!!:mad:

You do lose taste buds as you age as well.

Nothing beats a home made pie all steaming from the hole in the middle and covered with the pastry shapes kids make whilst I do the fillings.

I don`t eat meat now but I still glow with pride when my family go goggle eyed at the sight of my steak and onion plate pies. It is hard these days to do it but I choose not to work as such, although technically I am self employed. Too much pressure these days and these things are what you lose unfortunately.

:thumb: We only ate seasonal fruit & veg too, bar oranges & Bananas, although they were scarce for a long time...
Fruit & veg was either home grown or locally grown & the butchers used to have all the different types of Game meat either hanging outside around the window as well as inside... That particular butchers I am thinking of if still in Hampshire & still owned & run by the same family although it has moved with the times, there are interiors & fixtures still there... Like the enclosed Victorian cash office & all the old hand painted animal/game tiles in the walls & all t he hooks & rails from the ceilings....!!:thumb::D

;);) Oh & BTW, yes Nut, the tobacco was made from coconut if I remember rightly..!!! My younger brothers used to fight over it..!!!!!:D
