Luckily we never did have a ban here. I'm surprised anyone still does. I know they have lifted some of them.

Agreed - I often don the iPod and have it on very loud whilst perusing the estate with the hose; I am considerably aggrieved that I cannot do it this year due to the hosepipe ban.

Harvesting potatoes is my favourite thing. I've enjoyed harvesting other stuff I've grown, but nothing beats potatoes. I think its partly the suspense of it all. You look at a plant, you think 'I hope there's just right', you wonder how many are under there. You lift the plant and all new potatoes emerge from the soil. You rummage about and find more. You look at those new potatoes, and you know they are going to be infinitely superior to shop bought ones, and there for tonight's tea.

What bugs me about the hosepipe ban is the utter nonsense they are telling the public.
Apparently, domestic use counts for roughly 8% of total water use (the rest being farming and industry), and of that hosepipe use is only a minor percentage. The ban is really not making a huge saving of resources.
And the fact that the water companies are not able to make use of this rain because "it is the wrong time of year" also shows a lack of investment in infrastructure.

Anyway, this is supposed to be a thread on how gardening makes us relax, not get more irate! :frown:

Pricking out. Especially the very small stuff, or pots where you need to "wash" the roots apart.

          Squishing Lily beetles too!

I don't go near the garden when I'm in a bad mood, otherwise everything would get over pruned or pulled up. I just have to thrash it out with a good blasting of rock music. :)

Could be worse - I have this terrible habit of getting into my pyjama shorts and t-shirt (best thing I can think to call them, although I don't actually wear them in bed), and then realising that I need to water stuff or sort out the bins or something and end up wandering around subjecting any neighbours looking out of upstairs windows to the sight of me in my PJ's!

Deadheading does it for me too. Otherwise, picking cut flowers for the house...mmmmm :spinning:

Have you come across the book about Menfolk being Fire Watchers?
