Also a Peacock getting intoxicated on Buddleia. What a brilliantly fantastic year for butterflies! [IMG]

Pheasant in the back as usual early this morning he cleans up what the other birds drop from the bird table. Two deer grazing in the field opposite us.The wildlife around us is brilliant,we had barn owls nesting at the farm over the way.At our previous house there was Little Owls nearby ,a sight to be seen .

A lot of you take the most wonderful photos. Do you have to sit there waiting for a long time or are they mainly just chance photos? We only have a regular camera but even with a digi I think I would be totally useless. Please keep up the good work, I do love looking at them and I'm sure many others do too.

    Kedi-Gato:

My 'techinque' if you can call it that is simple. When I'm out with the camera I just keep looking about to see what's in bloom or flying about. If I see butterflies I watch what they are feeding or resting on, then start to get close in taking as many photos as I can before they move. Hint, don't let your own shadow cross over them - it'll spook 'em for sure. A telephoto or good zoom lens helps but it's not essntial.

I find the common white is one of the hardest to get a good photo of. They are really skitish and if they rest it's usually with thier wings folded.

Anyone, and I do mean anyone can take really good photos of insects etc. on Buddlia. Just stand close to a bush, wait patiently and then they will come to you. Whites, Tortoiseshells, Peacocks and Red Admirals just love it.

With the Painted Ladies I was however lucky. I'd seen a glimpse of one or two over a few days and then got lucky with a mass migration coming in - so many I didn't know where to point the camera. :D

This is probably my favorite pic from last year. Right time, right place. GC: Herbs and Wildflowers - Harebell
