Hornets are so beautiful! They do pack a powerful sting, but are not at all aggressive unless you attack their nests. This one let me get to within an inch or two before it gave a threat display.

Hi Dave and thanks. Camera is just a compact digital - Panasonic Lumix. Keep it clipped to my belt as you never know what you might see when walking.

    That's superb Hornbeam!

Here's my effort for today. I keep threatening to howk out these Michaelmas Daisys but now I know why I don't. The butterflies more than make up for the powdery mildew.

No close ups here but a general view of Radipole lake bird reserve in the town.A lot of birds have come since they lowered the level enabling more access to the reedbeds.Great Grested Grebe in foreground and two Little Egrets (out of five), one centre right and one hunched up left by the post. The Glossy Ibis present on weds/fri has now gone and I missed it(lucky I saw one in Turkey).

Mrs Pal and I have so many memories of Radiploe.
We always shop local when on holiday and found that spot. We spent quite a few hours with the kids around the reserve.... ;)
May come down next year on our own.

    Very nice GW, [IMG]
Has anyone seen "daddy long legs" (crane flys) this year yet?
Not seen one up to now, I'm sure we're usually overun with them by now.
    No moths either.

Eh? That is very odd - what's going on in Kent then? Loads of moths here and usual army of crane flies laying eggs in the lawn
