Lucky, lucky LOL!! That is a Swallowtail butterfly and in Britain it is so very rare. Only ever seen on and near Hickling Broad in Norfolk [IMG]

Thanks, HB, we really haven't got a clue here. There are so many beautiful ones which we'll try to capture and perhaps you can identify.

Excellent studies of the spider at lunch :D Is the heavy black border in mourning for the dear departed fly? ;)

Another batch of excellent photos GW.
I do miss to close up facility of my digital compared to my old SLR but i'll stick with the digital and just admire yours instead. :D

The Comma butterfly is one of my favourites and quite impossible to mistake for any other because of its ragged wings. There is a white "comma" mark on the underneath of the wings.

Don't see many commas here, just occasionally, more red admirals around now.
Have had a large number of swallows and martins arrived this weekend ready for the flight south, they have been refuelling all day over the bird reserve and will be settling on the wires down at Portland Bill ready for the off. Two wheatears on our green in front of the house this morning, also ready for their winter holiday but not close enough for a photo. [IMG]

That's a lovely one, Hornbeam. I found another today but the little flutterby would stay still very long, flitting and fluttering about, but I managed a couple of shots ...

Will obviously need an ID! [IMG] The Lantana flower is about 4cm across so this was quite large, I'd guess about 10cm long.
