Pip - can you give us some idea of size? Did you see any visible antennae? Must admit that "upturned boat" shape doesn't look very moth-like to me, but the are some rather odd-shaped micro-moths... a bit more detail would help!

Thanks Kedi for the help [IMG] ,some of those moths are beautiful but, alas,I think we are barking up the wrong tree. :(

You could well be correct Hyla, it was about 1cm long and I have enhanced the picture on my camera and there are no visible antenna. I have also noticed that there are only four feet visible.

If it is a froghopper I would love to know what species it is as I have never seen one like that before.

I kid you not, K-G - but it looks like a Kitten Moth!!! :D

The bars on the wings are quite dark, so I'd guess at an Alder Kitten, but it could be a Poplar or Sallow Kitten. And its big cousin is called - would you believe - a Puss Moth! [IMG]

Thanks Hyla, I looked at it and a couple more but I am not sure. "Mine" has a white head, most of the others have black heads. Then some of the wings look right just mine doesn't have enough bands. Keep on looking Kedi. I'm still chuckling over the names. Oh, while googling around, I came upon no end of wierd and wonderful names for moths.

Hmm... yes - see what you mean! I have to admit I don't have any ID guides which are pan-European, just UK ones. It's certainly related to the UK "Kittens", I think, but could be a species not found in Britain. The mystery remains!
