Last night when the dogs and I were walking along the drainage stream in the park in Warminster, there were loads of creatures dancing amongst the reeds, which looked like the lovely pale green damsel flies, but were bigger and beautiful dark blue, with a strange rising and falling flight. There were also some long thin ones with smaller wings and distinctive blue tips to their tails, so that they looked as if they had 2 heads. Needless to say I didn't have my camera with me, and when I returned tonight they did not, so these pictures are from the British dragonfly society site:
    http://www.dragonflysoc.org.uk/frameset.htm?isele&species&coe
According to this they were indeed damsel flies- beautiful creatures!

I firmly resolve to carry my camera everywhere with me from now on !

Only a skinny dragonfly so far,

And this. Don't know what it is, or what ails it, but it looks painful :D

Lovely bug shots :D Your "painful" fly, Nik is a male Scorpion Fly (Panorpa germanica) The orange tail that looks like a scorpion's sting is just bluff. It is not a sting.
Your other one is a Damsel Fly

Cracking shot of the Ringlet, MF - much sharper focus than mine

Moths are difficult because there are so many of them and a lot are similar. Not sure about these so will appreciate corrections. Feeding today on knapweed.

Well, I had a lovely huge white moth fly onto my sleeve the other night, said hi then left :D
Meanwhile back in the garden... 6 pigeons (one white), the usual sparrows & starlings and a young crow who walks around the garage roof like Professor Yaffle!! :D
Oh, and a few butterflies so far: one cabbage white, a tortoiseshell and a red admiral.

This enormous moth came indoors last night. Quite approachable so I took a photo, caught it and put him outside.
