I saw a pair of these Azure-winged Magpies (Cyanopica cyana) a couple of hours ago swooping down in front of us and then under the trees, only some 7-10 meters away ... and the camera was at my feet ... and then they were gone ... :( [IMG]

They are absolutely stunning, to say the least. Now I shall be on the lookout all the time and probably keep going back to this area about 10kms from us to see if I can spot them again. I've read this area I am in is their natural habitat ... cork oak trees, olive groves and pine plantations ... we are surrounded by all three.

Caught these at last, couldn't get any closer. Three Cattle Egrets overwintering here. They are not as slim as the Little Egret and have a yellow bill instead of black and black feet instead of yellow. :D

One flew off and was replaced by a Heron.

Hi Gogs, Marley, and Woo Thankyou for your comments [IMG] I have wanted to get a good photo of one of those for years but usually when I sneak up on them they fly off.

I had been down to take some photos of our new shop and on the way back approached these ornamentsal apple trees. He must have been at the base of the tree feeding on the fruit and startled me when he flew up,so I quickly got my camera out of my pocket and zoomed in.He seemed very tame for a Fieldfare, but it made my day capturing this winter visitor
