Yes, it is a Cockchafer. We often see them over here too. I think it must have been the larve of one that I found on holiday recently. Must find the photo and upload it.

Agreed, fantastic photos Kalmia and bobj ... now I'm embarrassed to put my awful offering.

Whilst having lunch today this little birdie kept trying to get up into the tiled roof above us and sat in the road patiently waiting for the right moment .... I couldn't get any closer for fear of frightening him/her so had to crop a lot, sorry ...

I didn't take this picture today but had it as we wanted our outdoor porch roof done like this, but there are dozens of bird (sparrow?) nests tucked away in there ....

Mistle thrush on Mahonia outside front window feasting on berries, photos through double glazing hence lack of clarity.

This is a visiting blackbird on the same mission the white feathers on its head gives it the appearance of a penguin.

Lovely shots, Walnut, of both the thrush and the penguin blackbird! Did you go outside for the third picture as it is a very clear shot.

Thanks Strongy. I was lucky that day, there were so many insects busy in the kids garden and I took advantage of the chance. Not often that I get so many good shots in a row.
