Fantastic hoverfly shot Kedi, so sharp and colourful :thumb: Think the 'Ready for take off ' pic is great.

Nice action shot Matt :thumb: The pollen sacks are well laden.

Thanks Pip. Mr K thinks it is horrible and can't understand why I take pics of such things.

I found this handsome chappie on the patio around noon today -

Oh Kandy, how lucky finding some grasshoppers! We rarely see any in our garden and on the few times we did, I didn't have the camera at hand. It was also before my digi days.

Thanks Woo and that fly is really good. Isn't it strange that something that nasty can have such brilliant colours?

The Speckled Wood is a common species found in woodland and scrub where dappled sunlight and areas of lush grass grow in damper areas. The male will often be seen perched with wings wide open in areas of sunlight, chasing intruders and females which wander by. Both male and female butterflies feed on honeydew in tree tops, only occsionally being seen feeding on flowers.
I have to wonder why he/she payed a visit to my conservatory.
I am a long way from large damp wooded areas.....

Oh, it is gorgeous, capney! It looks like it has a white frill around the dark wings, making it even more pretty.

Thanks for the info on it too. :thumb:
