    They're good pics, pete, I saw these in the park recently, damsel flies, of course camera not with me and they were sitting quite still on the rushes. :(

    The butterflies are everywhere this year, it must be the weather, never seen anything like the first one roders. This settled down in front of me today, appoligies if we've had it before.

    went to the local park this morning plenty of bees,
    In the evening out on my balcony i seem to be getting a lot of very large moths, they are probably attracted by the lights, I have all over the balcony. :eek:

    Your butterfly is a Comma, Pete. On its underwing, there is a white mark like a comma.

    Found this beetle under a log at Virginia Water yesterday not sure what it is but someone will tell me. [​IMG]

    It is the Violet Ground Beetle (Carabus violaceus) Take him home, he eats SLUGS and other invertebrates.

    Thanks Hornbeam, I left it and it's mates there . We were there just to break the day up after dropping our son off at heathrow and seemed a nice place to stop. Didn't realise just how bad the drought had affected the trees up there. Although I saw a specimen Koelreutia Paniculata in full flower there a lot of birch and chestnuts were going yellow and brown. :( It was a sad sight, we have had lower temperatures here so the trees haven't been so badly affected.
