I'm just loving seeing all the close up insect (and spider!) photos. Until one sees these little creatures really close you don't really appreciate what wonderful little things they are.

It's been really difficult getting half decent shots here as there has been a more or less constant breeze for weeks which moves insects on plants in and out of focus. Lack of bright sun hasn't helped either!

Managed to get this hover fly with its tongue out -

Had to put a stake in to stop the sun flower moving about for this shot -

Dave, I think that is the best hoverfly photo yet, a wonderful shot :thumb: Great bee shot too, another little furry friend like Woo's.

    Thanks Sis xx

    Ta Kedi.
If I can come up with insect pics half as good as yours I'll be a very happy chappie!
I just love photos of bees - they are such lovely, furry, industrious creatures and so crucial to many of our food crops.

Great pics all, Nice little bee Woo he looks very busy. lovely colours Dave on both the hoverfly and bee pics. I seem to have lots of bees that stay out all night ( to drunk to make home maybe :D) This one was fast asleep on the flower so I had to give him a little gentle prod to get him to pose for his pic.

Love that bee's punk hair do Alfie!
He does look a bit 'morning after the night before'.

    Lovely pic, Alfie :thumb: :)

O2, Mrs shiney strokes bees when they are on our Jerusalem sage. They have their heads stuck inside the flower and she always strokes their backs. They never seem to take any notice :D

    Lovely shot, bobj. :thumb:

Assuming it's the top left flutterby, could it be a Painted Lady?

Now, this is atrocious what I am about to post but I had one shot at it and it started to take off as I clicked .... the first Scarce Swallowtail I've seen this year ....

I really must brush up on my photograph skills. :o

Lol I agree, not the best pic you have posted:D BUT you were lucky. I found a Swallowtail caterpillar in Turkey 2 years ago but I haven't seen an adult in 20, I don't know if they are common anywhere, it might come back if it has found a food supply. Keeping looking.:thumb:

    Evening, strongy .... :)

As I approached the Lantana I saw it ... they are VERY large ... so rushed back into the kitchen to get the camera where I keep in on charge.

They are 'reasonably' common here .... or have been for the last couple of years since I started butterfly watching, it's just this year I haven't seen them ....I shall certainly be keeping my eyes open. ;)

I guess that was supposed to say 20 years ????
