What is everyone's favourite flower?

my favourite is the paeonie (apologies if spelt wrong). it is the one flower we had in our garden when i was young that always flowered despite all the football and other games that went destroying everything else in the garden. i know they dont flower for long which is probably why i like them even more, the fact that you have to enjoy them when they are there.

 

My favourite flowers are

1st.. Carnation
2nd..Iris's
3rd..Roses especially 'Deep Secret' for fragrance
and the David Austin old fashined sort..
4th...Unusual coloured Cowslips and Oxlips
5th... Fuchias
6th...All Daffodils and their relatives...
7th...Corncockles
8th...Hardy Cyclamen

Morning Kandy. I see you're a Carnation lover like me. I just read an article yesterday that said Daffodils originated in Portugal!

 

Primulas. This is a really rare one that i grew from wild collected seed sent to me from the USA.

However i do like the easy to grow primulas such as this Barnhaven polyanthus, I get the seed from France.

My next favourite is the Himalayan poppy. I started out with the just the ordinary blue one but at one point ended up with about 15 different types. I collect my own seed and have sent it all over the world. Germination is better from fresh seed, so is better if you can get it from a keen amateur. Some of the big firms, with big glossy catalogues sell old seed that is mostly dead. Despite what they say in their catalogues it is easy to germinate Meconopsis seed. It is afterwards that is difficult.

This was part of the Meconopsis bed in my garden.

 

I'm sorry if i'm repeating myself, but i love my Morina longifolia, Thistle like leaves, with a tall stem of white flowers that change to pink when pollinated. The small but long and elegant flowers appear up the stem similar to phlomis, jerusalem sage. I can't post pics on here. But i would only bore everyone with my photo's.

Nice flowers, but the leaves would get me digging it out, from habit! :rolleyes:

 

I like Morina as well. It has a lovely scent, not too strong. It is a sod to collect seed from. The large seeds are held in by these thistle like things and have to be rubbed out. Doesn't half make my fingers hurt but the seed is so expensive.
I did see a photo of a yellow form in a book and I rang up the gardens that were featured. Unfortunately the seed had been brought back from the Himalayas, it was awkward to grow and never set any seed before it died.

That's a lovely one, utbg, I have one or two of them, still flowering now here.

 

i could only grow it in my green house here in scotland

Yellow Roses for me.....

 

Flowers for seasons is what I like and favourites tend to be those which grow well in my garden:viz.snowdrops and daffodils,Day Lilies and Irises, Anthemis in the summer then Dahlias - so easy to grow and rewarding in terms of flowers and flowering period.
In my tubs my current favourites are Regal Pelargoniums mixed with Cannas.

Hi dendro, it certainly is a lovely plant, i quite agree, it can be mistaken for a thistle and dug up. Thanks for putting pics on, I can't import any pics on here at all.
geoff, I don't rub the seeds out, i just wait for them to fall out after hanging the flowerhead upside down in a carrier bag, I cut them off when the last tier of flowers is fading, then sow. I bought some seeds from Mr. f's, It took 3 yrs for the only survivor to flower. But i had dug it up and moved it. I sowed some seed last summer and now i have 60 of them, but i did notice last year, that they are spreading round the border i have them in. I'm glad i didn't get the yellow vriety, it would have ended up on the compost. I hate YELLOW!
