Seems appropriate that Rishi gets the job on Diwali.

Remember Gordon Brown, when he thought everyone loved him. He threatened to call a general election to prove his public support once and for all. Immediately there was a media frenzy and all the pollsters got busy with their statistics. The Gordon backed down.

I remember the whole fiasco. It reminded me of my school days when some idiot would challenge someone to a fight, then brick their knickers when the person they were challenging turned out to be up for it instead of running away.

Well finger crossed that Rishi can make a fist of it. He has the energy (only 42!) and fiscal experience so let's see how he creates new markets and gets the finances back in shape.
At least the Tories seem to be more or less supportive of him which is a huge change in itself

So much so that Liz Truss beat him a few weeks ago.

They certainly do in the conservative party it seems.

I wonder if I'm the only one that thinks Rishi is a panic buy. Like when you oust a prime minister for what you think will be a better one, only to find that the new one is broken so you desperately need a new one and don't have time to shop around.

IMO, Rishi is a safe pair of hands, but we will see.

There's some useless geek trivia about this in my industry of IT, specifically software.

The standard character set in the western world is called ASCII. It stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange.

There are 127 characters in the original ASCII set, all referenced by a number. 42 is the asterisk.

As nobody thought of adding a multiply symbol, the asterisk is used for this purpose in most programming languages.

Some say that this is the hidden geek joke in the old meaning of life classic, 42 being the code for asterisk, which is used to represent multiplication. Ergo, the meaning of life is to multiply.

He came second last time to Liz, she was voted for by the members, which was obviously a mistake to let them have a say.
She promised too much and they swallowed it.

Three different PM's in seven weeks, yet, many can't even get an appointment to see a GP in the same timescale.

I think Rishi blew it when they started having the live TV debates, the amount of times he interrupted Liz was unacceptable. I have my doubts about Rishi, infact I have my doubts there is any MP's in parliament who have leadership credentials.

There's a few but those that actually want to just do what's best for the country are hounded out by the back room power brokers.
I think in the debates Liz paused so long and often that he thought she'd stopped lol

Or with you dad during your school days.

Son: "Dad, I've got a part in the school play. I play a man who's been married 25 years." Dad: "Never mind son. Maybe next time you'll get a speaking part!" :heehee:
