Missed most of PMs question time today, but what I have seen is a continuation of winging from Starmers bunch.
Tackle the Tory's on their policies and stop keep sniping about who has been put in the new cabinet.
Its been going on since party gate, they, (opposition), just keep making it personal and moaning about individuals instead of their policies.

I'm sorry, John, but why would we be 'going' anywhere, apart from Jenny making an accurate and valid observation? She offered one opinion (that it's interesting) and two facts. You'd have to be a tad oversensitive to read anything into that. Why is it 'unenlightened'?
I spent 40 years living in a town with a high Asian population, no problem. I used to go to India for holidays and still have some very good friends there. But I've also experienced some incredible bitterness and vindictiveness on the part of Indian civil servants who indisputably hold a grudge over the Raj. It's a historical fact and their reaction is an understandable and human one!
So maybe Sunak is a 'born and bred Brit'. Good for him! He's also a practising Hindu. In my humble opinion, (if I'm allowed to express it?) that could potentially be far more of a problem given the high proportion of Muslims resident in the UK.
It's a sad state of affairs if we can't have a sensible, adult discussion about these matters.

Everyone has a legitimate right to believe in / practice, any religion they want here in the UK. Or no religion. I think that's one of the things that makes the UK a really cool place to live. What I think makes it even better is that church and state are legally separate concepts here.

The result of all this, in practical terms, is that it doesn't matter if someone in power is atheist, Christian, Hindu, Muslim or Jedi or anything else. I think it would be a sad day if we start judging people by their religious standing rather than their merits or otherwise in their chosen profession.

It doesn't but it may dissuade Moslem voters from voting Tory.

                Those two 'facts' are incorrect:
'Fact' 1) Rishi is not "Indian" he was born in the UK and is British.
'Fact' 2) Saying someone is "only just English" implies they are a second class citizen.

I don't know what "only just English" means but I can name Prime Ministers who were NOT English. Gordon Brown & Tony Blair (Scottish), David Lloyd George (Welsh), even good old Winston Churchill had an American mother. But so what?

Disturbing is a more appropriate term than 'interesting'. The very idea that one's birth place or ethnic origin makes them superior or inferior is unenlightened.

Ultimately though, if Muslim voters chose not to vote Tory, that is up to them - surely that is the whole point of voting, to vote for the party that is offering you the best policies and that most closely represents you as an individual?

For me, I am sick and tired of identity politics - I couldn't care if someone is Indian, black, gay, vegetarian, ginger haired and so on... we need to stop playing the people and start playing the ball! I am far more interested in their skills (or more appropriately, lack thereof)

The whole problem with politics is very, very simple - for decades we have been offered only a choice of who is the 'least worst' - politicians know that they don't have to work for our votes; they know they can ride roughshod over our wishes once elected (Mr Blair really sunk that one into their minds by ignoring the 'Stop the War' protests) and they are not even held accountable for the billions of pounds of OUR money that they squander whilst not providing the services we are paying for.

If we all stopped bickering about not liking party X or person Y and actually played all of them, hard, against their policy and the standard of services we are receiving... well, it would be a different story.

I find it very strange that we can get a PM of Indian decent, but we are not supposed to notice, also the biggest mistake seems to be actually mentioning it.
Only in multi cultural Britain spotting such things and mentioning it are out of order and immediately jumped on.

I don't get it and I never will.

When filling in government forms it often asks your ethnicity these days.
I spotted Asian British, but I don't think Asian English is there.

My only real issue is ...why mention it in the first place?
                      What is there to notice:noidea:?
                      People are people... end of.

It just gets to stir things up imo.

One of our brood held a significant national post about 8 years ago in support of a particular party . Thankfully it was a younger peoples group and although he did get a little media coverage at the time( on how good he was in carrying out the role he was elected to do) it was all positive. I must say hubs and I were so relieved that his background was not used at all to make irrelevant backstabbing remarks by anyone, media or otherwise, just to cause trouble and unrest. Our children were brought up being allowed to choose , if they so wish, their religious path...none as it so happens, but in my mind I could see the headlines....Iranian Muslim secures top position in.......... as I said thankfully it didn't happen, maybe it just goes to show that it's the older generation who like to turn insignificant little bits of info into huge catastrophes!!:roflol:

Examples of things that occupy my mind:

                        We're heading for climate catastrophe.

There's a war on, which is bad enough, but could easily escalate.

The guy in charge is stinking rich and I doubt he even understands the struggles of ordinary folk, let alone cares.

Work is busy at the moment and I have a number of challenging projects with pressing deadlines.

I can't decide what to have for dinner tonight.

Things that don't occupy my mind:

Someone's skin colour, racial heritage, or religious beliefs.

I think if I had enough mental energy left over after everything else to worry about where someone's parents were born, I'd either be very lucky or very bored.

Probably be a good question to ask Keir Starmer, he was making a lot of it in Parliament yesterday.

BBC politics programme let it slip today as well.

I am more worried about him and his wife having a net worth of £730M than I am about him being Indian. As others have noted, the man has never been in a situation where he has had to worry about feeding his family and/or keeping the lights on.
