                Going back to Andy_g's original picture, I noticed that the leaves are arranged alternately on the stem, which according to Wikipedia is a trait of the Prunus family:-

                "The leaves are simple, alternate, usually lanceolate, unlobed, and often with nectaries on the leaf stalk."

                This isn't proof that it's a Prunus but might eliminate a lot of other possibilities.

                  My first thought was Lysimachia but although the leaves are also lanceolate they tend to be opposite and not alternate.
