Bought some Chard seedlings at the Uber expensive local Garden Centre Group, formerly Wyevales, soon to be renamed to ... Wyevales. I digress.

They are thick as cress in their little seed tray, same price as a packet of seed, more seedlings than I need, and have saved me, what?, 4-6 weeks compared to sowing now, and I should have sown them at the start of August. I'm happy with that ... off now to have a good Prick Out

    Oh! Er! Matron!

They are for an over-winter crop in the greenhouse - no idea what anyone else buying them would plan to do with them, they aren't going to be much use outside .... similar fate for loads of other veg seedlings that they had on sale I expect :)

I planted some daffodils tonight and deadheaded the dahlias. Dug up my lilies (well tried to, they were in such an awkward place one got badly damaged, oh well, not that keen anyway)
Only had about an hour or so before it got dark.

More potting on, killed three massive slugs, labelled the daffs I planted yesterday, planted out a few things (mainly cause I needed the pots!) planted up another easy fill basket, tidied the house, hung some curtains and just collapsed on the sofa!

Mrs Shiney has started on a massive weeding campaign (masses of weeds, not massive weeds :heehee:) but I'm still only allowed to do harvesting and mowing - and move the sprinkler around.

I want to get started on potting up the hundreds of Aquilegias that are growing in the veg plot where we broadcast the seeds. I hope they survive. They were just common pinks, blues and mauves, but the species varieties are being brought on in the greenhouse. With a bit of luck we'll be able to start the replacement of the thousands we lost in the last 18 months.

We're also clearing out the violets that seem to have gone mad all over the garden.

Nearly finished taking "just in case" cuttings of things that might succumb to the winter.

I put out zip lock bags, with a label in each, first with a view to then taking a few cuttings, and when half a dozen bags done heading back to the potting shed to Prep and Strike them ... that was 10 days ago, went to do the final batch-of-bags last night and already the indelible marker writing is illegible  Should have used a pencil ... although my labels are shiney and hard to write on

Needed to make room round my pond for a Gunnera I bought earlier in the year which I'd planted in a large pot so this entailed lifting and potting up some Ligularia, grasses and Lysimachia...Now I need to find a spot for those:rolleyespink:
Decided against pricking out the Foxgloves until they get a bit bigger and did a trial with the Ammi Majus, sown one batch in JI seed compost and a small pot in leaf mould:blue thumb:

I've been pottering today. Disposed of the first of my tomato plants, they're almost at an end now sadly. Tidied up and weeded the rose bed and potted up one of two Sambucus cuttings that I started in water as a trial, the other one is already potted and looking healthy.

Potted up lots of bulbs including ornithogalum nutans, crocus and narcissus. All white.

Also bought a large 44cm square container and compost ready for my bare root rose.

Last week bought some under water basket pots to grow some alliums in to then plant directly into the beds when ready next year.

Gutted the greenhouse today, stacked all the empty pots in there leaving plenty of room for the shelving to go back in there over winter. Got a load of spent compost waiting to be scattered over the lawns to break down over winter (waste not, want not) and now looking to clear out a few of my big barrels to fill them with ericaceous compost for my blueberries that arrived this week.

All in all, its been a pretty poor year garden wise - most of that is due to me being distracted by the works to replace our shed, but I am not sorry to see the end of this growing season and already I am looking toward next year......
