What Jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2014..

Did some mowing before the rain and Mrs Shiney did loads of tidying, cleared tomato plants out of the greenhouse.

I've replaced all the wire hoops inside the propagator so that the plastic sheeting can be put on and taken off easily - just in time for last night's frost. The hoops are the 30" wide and 20" high ones that are normally used for cloches and are perfect for draping the plastic over the propagator.

I've now bought the angle iron that will be turned into supporting stakes for the path I laid and I think that, today, it will be cut into sections for me (thank you, brother in law) so that I can work on it tomorrow.

I got out there yesterday before the rain became too heavy and put in my angle iron stakes. I was helped, all the time, by Sarafi.

As I'm not a DIY type of person most of my work is usually the easiest way I can think of to get the job done.

I'd originally thought of getting lawn edging to stop the paving that I did from sliding (over time) into the flower bed. Having looked at the edging I realised it wouldn't work so thought about driving in some metal stakes to do the job.

I got some steel angle iron (£9.90 from B&Q) and got the BiL to cut it for me. I then used a club hammer to knock them in and used a piece of wood across the top of the metal to do the last inch. I shall get a little bit of paint to cover the top of the stakes and remove more of the soil that's against the paving, so as to get a proper gully in the bed.

I'm sure some of you would have found a much better way to do it but I think it works.

 

It's only the gunge that has been holding my greenhouse together!

I went round the greenhouse yesterday pushing the wood back where the roof panels have started sliding down and pushing the wooden struts out. I can't put any fixings into the wood to pin them together as the wood is too rotten but I painted the wood with hardener earlier on in the year. The panels (each one is 2'6" x 5') can't be replaced as the originals are Imperial and new ones are metric .
