What Jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2014..

Completed my bulb planting and popped a couple of my hydrangea cuttings (from last year, thanks @Kristen ) into patio pots.

 

cut all the lawns and collected the leaves at the same time , planted the last of the bulbs I will have to buy less next time I say that every year , apart from waiting on Japaneses Toad Lily to arrive , which I may put into pots to start with then plant out late spring ?
Picked a couple of seed pods for @longk

Banana and colcasia in the greenhouse for winter , cut about 70% leaves off , I will start to dry off which will help if any minus temperatures , still drying begonia corms off as well ,. its amazing how much need doing this time of year.

I need to decide to keep the lavender hedge out in the front garden its nearly 9 years old and looking a bit moth eaten , well scraggy not actual caterpillars, I could restart and plant a new one in the spring or plant something else ??? but what .......

so having a chill out and a cider , may do more later on

 

Or take cuttings from the ones you have and use those to replant a new lavender hedge?

Had a tidy up of the front garden, cleared up leaves and put them through the mower and into my leaf mold cage. I was going to take out all the bedding, but there are loads of flower buds on them so I have left them. I have planted a load of bulbs. I still need to get some Allium bulbs and some Gladiolli to put in. Then need to pick up some manure and mulch.

Moved a ton of top soil and topped up a couple of borders and now I'm beat

 

Got my Allium bulbs and planted them today. I also picked up 6 Foxgloves that someone was offering on free cycle and planted those.

We finished building my greenhouse! Just a few panes of glass and the window mech to fix. Needs another clean, more gravel putting down, insulating for winter and then it's done. Really happy with it.

Planted white tulips in a pot. Then got more white tulips and added them in another layer on top! Topped off currently with white violas... Which I never used to like but have grown to love them in solid blocks of colour.

Not today, two weeks ago, I planted some winter peas and beans and I noticed today they're sprouting very strongly already.

Also, last week I mega mulched my main flower bed with a deep layer of manure. Planted three allium white Giants to the bed. Had a good tidy up too.

Clearing the begonias out of some large terracotta pots at work today, ready for winter planting, I came across something in amongst all the compost and roots.

Upon further investigation, it turned out to be a dead baby rabbit, buried in the pot at some time during the summer by the resident Norfolk Terrier, who enjoys burying her victims around the garden from time to time.

Because it was buried in moist compost and had been carefully watered and fed throughout the summer, it had reached a state of extreme, mushy unpleasantness (to put it mildly) and I cannot even begin to describe the smell which emanated from this rotting rodent.

I am so glad I was wearing gloves at the time.
