What Jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2014..

That's a shame Minki.....sounds like mouse traps might be in order

 

Dug out the top few inches of the bed on one side of the polytunnel and then dug in fresh garden compost. Set the final 20 King Ted potatoes chitting. Bagged a pile of moggie mess on the front lawn and replaced the batteries in the ultra-sonic moggie chaser (they'd gone flat which possibly accounts for the deposit).

 

I didn't do much yesterday except wash some more pots and labels. They're all done now thankfully!

 

You're right! That photo has cured me.

 

Dunno if it was mice or something else? I couldnt see any obvious places the mice have come into the shed. but I saw the seeds have been dug out from teh precise location and some compost and half eaten seeds next to pots... I should put a CCTV camera there to capture the nightlife in my shed

 

Did nothing in the garden today, too wet and windy. Potted up some lily of the valley 'corms' to grow on. Contemplated potting up some seedlings but decided to let them grow a bit bigger first.

 

Didn't get a chance to get down to Aldi in the week to see if the cheap fruit trees were any good, but picked up a couple of 2 year old pear trees from the local garden centre this morning since they were half price; only three times the price of the Aldi ones :-).

Planted them this afternoon - nothing special - a williams & a comice but they should compliment the trees that the neighbours put in last year ; apparenlty our houses are built on the old orchard from the big house over the back- we have a couple of huge old bramleys & a huge walnut that the builders left & over the years we have all put new fruit trees in as they seem to like growing here. It nice to have neighbours who would rather plant trees than dig up the front gardens to park more cars..

 

I've been out again and got a bit more done, took down a couple of old rotten bird boxes and put up a couple of new ones. Pruned back and removed dead wood from a neglected 7ft+ tall 42 year old rose of the neighbour's, back down to a more manageable 3ft, it looks a lot better now Also done some general tidying around my plot

 

@Kristen @Jenny namaste @Lolimac @chimneyrosegarden Mystery solved! after I got over the shock of mice attack, i went through my seed sowing notes again. You were right that it wasnt the sweet peas that were allegedly eaten... I sowed sweet peas and Lathyrus sativus azureus (thanks to @longk) at the same time and didnt label them. So, I think the mouse is very much healthy and alive. And probably content after the lovely meal of azureus seeds.
On the positive side all my sweet peas and intact...
But now I am sad for azureus.. Learnt a big lesson in gardening. Proper labelling is very vital or else you end up mourning after the wrong plant

 

I think it would have been too soon for your Azureus - they come on pretty quickly, so would have been struggling by the time they were ready to plant out (although maybe they don't need to be kept frost free?)
