Clearing away branches and debris at work today, from a large scots pine which had been felled by tree surgeons.

By mid afternoon the weather was vile, with gales and lashing rain. Only one thing to do on a day like this. :hapydancsmil:

I'm late getting seeds underway and with all this wind I'm not going anywhere near my greenhouse where all my bits and pieces are stored. Having said that Sunday's looking hopeful at the moment. :)

It's already sunny and I might clear the debris in the garden if the ground isn't too soggy for me to go walking over it in my size 12's.

It's a beautiful clear sunny day here at the moment so after we watch tinker bell for the umpteenth time I'm wrapping little chimney up so she can start her gardening year advising me where to prune my roses - lol

I've just come in from doing some work in the garden. Cut back some shrubs and ornamental grasses, raked all the whole year's debris from around there and dug up about a sq. m of ordinary grass that would not pull out from all the goo!

Filled 1.5 wheelie bins. Now it's time for a :coffee:

I tied some Rose stems that had become fairly tall to canes for the time being. I'll come back to them and prune them later on. I've also planted the Rose "Generous Gardener, which has been sitting patiently in a pot for the last few months, in one of the borders after much deliberation as to where it could go. Also in the borders I've planted 12 Primroses to add a little colour. Then after a mug of hot tea I tied in some wandering stems of the Clematis Armandii, which is planted at the base of my Acer Brilliantissimum, in the direction I wanted against the branches. I always leave the borders during the Winter allowing the dead stems etc to lie on the soil so that some wildlife might get some shelter and possibly food. But I think when the next fine day comes along I will start to clear the borders and paths in readiness for the coming Spring.

Hi Ian, that looks like a nice snug shelter for the Clematis, let's hope we don't get any more winds. I've already cut the mixed varieties of Clematis, around 36-40, that I planted around the Trellis entrance to the garden due to the fact that there were a lot of buds on the top of the trellis and I would have ended up with a crown of flowers rather than evenly space up the sides and top. I've still got a fair number in various parts of the garden that will need a bit of pruning and tidying up but, again, that's for later!!
