What Jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2014..

I hope so as well, l got some metal bar from work and pinned it down, ive had it stored in the shed since Christmas, its protected on 2 sides .

 

Finally finished the conifer trimming
The old woman who owns them is well into her 80's and can no longer care for them (bless her)
So I've done them for her.
They don't cut any of my light out as they face north from my side
Tidied the GH up, got my propagator sorted.
Gave everything abit of water.
Dug up some canna rhizomes from last year and still nice and firm with some small shoots showing on some of them and they've been in outside

It cut all her light out.
The conifers were just abit to high on the left side my side of the fence (ladders not tall enough)
You can tell how much I've chopped off by looking at the neighbours :-)

I'm intrigued by that fork in the bottom left of your photo. Is it just a small fork or did you break the handle?

Did a bit of pottering about in the sunshine this afternoon. Hoed in between the autumn sown broad beans, cleared the leaves out of my two 'sink ponds' and moved some plants from next door's garden into mine (with, of course, the kind permission of the lady next door).

It was with rather mixed feelings that I relocated those plants. We've been neighbours and good friends for some 25 years now. Both keen gardeners, we've spent countless hours chatting over the garden fence and swapping tips, seeds, plants and produce, as gardeners often do.

Unfortunately, illness means that she is no longer able to do any gardening and is now in a care home. The house is being sold and when we last visited her she said I was free to take any plants from her garden that I liked, in recognition of our friendship over the years.

So whatever the future may hold, it is good to know that my garden will contain some living, growing reminders of a good friend and neighbour.

 

The weather let me into the greenhouse today! All the seeds that are at least two weeks overdue for sowing are now sorted! With the greenhouse being mostly shut up tight in recent weeks I've noticed today that two of my over wintering Fuschias have mildew, one of which was passed the point of no return so that's been binned. The other one I'm hoping to save and have now moved that and others into my open porch to get some air.

what a amazing day wall to wall sunshine about time and my automatic greenhouse window opened 1st time in 2014

So .... propagator has now come out the garage and all set up and has a selection of begonia tubers warming up nicely another tip from my begonia book is cover the tuba fully as it roots all over so all in individual pots and labelled !!

Had a quick hour in the greenhouse - warm, bright and sunny since the large cherry tree got blown down a few months ago . Nothing sown last week has sprouted yet - watered where needed - late summer-sown aquilegias doing well. Pricked out sweet peas (basket and high scent) and planted 3 in a pot - the perennial ones are not doing as well - just sprouting now - was going to bin them and start again - lucky I didn't .
Indoors - tomatoes are up - all peppers/chillies now in cell trays under lights - Scotch Bonnets moved to 7cm pots. New lights arrived - already full up . Sown Pansies (basket and normal), Busy Lizzies, Antirrhinums, Bacopa (already up), Rudbeckia Cherry Brandy, and Coreopsis. Exciting times ahead

I've had a tidy up of the front border garden and cleared away all the old debris.

This afternoon I'll be trying to find my carefully drawn map of which bulbs I planted where last year so I can figure out what on earth everything is!
