Had a good tidy up , and one of my "Montana" clematis is totally dead looked a bit wilted in August so dont know what has happened with that roughly about 7 years old even the thick trunk at the base was rotten inside , the others are all ok .

Cleared the whole lot off the trellis and out of the white cherry tree, it will let more light into that area now and I do have some seedlings that have grown well so I will wait to see what colour they are before re planting but I will choose a spot quite a distance from the old one.

Gave all the overwintering plants a good water in the greenhouse , amazing how quickly they dry out this time of year.

Saw a lot of bumble bees enjoying the flowers on Kojo no mai cherry .

Lawn is still soaking wet and full of moss even all the new fencing has turned green

cuppa and a relax I think :coffee:

Didn't do much today, no excuses as it was a dry, sunny afternoon. Just a touch of lazyitis, I guess. Have put some bare root plants into soak now so will be busy tomorrow and make up for it. Spotted some goosegrass getting ready to run riot so will tackle that tomorrow too.

Slow start to the day due to Virgin Media turning up to install to my next door neighbours, then discovering that the connection point is miles away, which kicked off a whole re-opening of problems that we had with Virgin when we moved in.... anyway, that is a whole different thread.

I went to the post office, and picked up my parcel of bulbs (will post a thread later for your advice and input), then popped into my favourite wee hardware store and got a tenner of a really sturdy, large incinerator; then it was off to mother-in-laws to get my anvil tree loppers, before taking Mrs C to the dentists. While she was in at the dentist, I took myself off round the garden centre (never going to end well), and managed to escape having only bought two packs of Livingstone Daisy seeds (going to try again), three packs of trailing petunia seeds (still not convinced that the begonias are going to turn out for me), a packet of Malope Vulcan seeds, and a bag of silver sand to make seed sowing a bit more scientific. I narrowly avoided (although I have no idea how) buying a large heated propagator that was reduced to £22 because the box was damaged by dampness.

Oh, and I can't promise that I won't go back for a brugmansia that they had for a fiver or so..........

Anyway, after a quick sarnie, it was out to the back garden, and the fallen buddleia tree is now a stump and a pile of firewood. Apparently, mother nature knows best, as there were loads of rotten bits surprisingly high up the tree that I'm surprised haven't resulted in departing branches before now. Its amazing how much bigger the garden feels, and how much more light is getting in on that north facing side - so for now, the plans to replace with a silver birch are on hold, as I want to see what difference the absence of the tree makes to the shady side of the garden.

I agree with Spruce, it's probably to cold outside for them to germinate. You really need to bring them inside as they tend to be slower to get going than other seeds, also when they get past seedling stage they tend to slow down in growth for a while.

Cleaned out the greenhouse which was a bit of a pigsty (it was once a real pigsty before I converted it) and it's now spotless, tidy, and ready for sowing etc. Dug out the second bed in the polytunnel and added fresh garden compost. Measured out one of the veg plots for our maincrop spuds so we can get black plastic down to warm the soil and bring up weeds for flaming before we sow. Picked a few leeks for dehydrating.

hi everyone, i spent a good part of the day repairing the fence after storm damage. i also cleaned up all the leaves and had general tidy up before it started pouring down. trying to find a gap in between rain and swampy lawn is difficult
                    regards nijinski

I put mine outside in the summer, in a fully shaded part (its part of my Exotic garden), in the winter it lives in the frost free conservatory - they take more cold than people may assume.

Now, you do realise that its all your fault @Lolimac - I had £30 in garden vouchers from my lovely mum for my birthday, so I went armed to look at that propagator again.

Needless to say it came home with me (Sankey Growwarm 300) as did a scarifier that was marked down from £24.99 to £9.99; both reduced for the same reason, faded/marked packaging! Better still, when I got home and opened the scarifier up there was a tool belt thing in there for holding secateurs - same make as the scarifier so I can only assume that someone as shoved it in there on the assumption that it was part of the scarifier.

I also got four, twenty litre bags of J Arthur Bowers John Innes Seed soil based compost.

Not bad for some vouchers and £12 cash
