Dug up the pebbled border with heathers and other shrubs in was looking tatty.
Hoping to plant up with some palms and other exotics later

 

Been away for 10 days so not been able to do anything in the garden. So today will be spent cutting the grass and catching up on lots of other things that need doing. Had a walk round last night and was amazed at how much everything had grown - including the weeds! With the mild weather everything is about a month ahead. I was a bit apprehensive about how my seedlings had fared while I was away but most had survived. First time I'd used capillary matting and though it had dried out it must have only just happened as most of the plants were fine.

 

I'm giving my boss some hedging plants, which are quite large. Most are in tubs but one's in the border so needs to be dug up. Even the ones in tubs are v heavy. I've been meaning to do it for quite a while but I have now promised him I'll drop them round tomorrow (if they'll fit in the car - may need two trips) so I will have to take them out and root prune them/wrap them this evening or early doors tomorrow (before 9am cos I'm WFHing).

 

I did loads today! Potted on some broccoli (which could probably be planted but my half-shaded bed isn't ready... oops). Planted lettuce and rocket on two levels of my little trio planter thing - except first I didn't plant the rocket, I started planting broccoli and then I was like nooo what am I doing?! So I hope they're all still okay despite all the drama and moving around. *Sigh* carelessness costs lives. Anyway with the radishes on top the trio planter is now complete. I love it, such an efficient use of space and it only cost 99p.
Then I gave all the empty seed trays a good, hot shower and sowed Greek basil, lime basil, sweet basil and Petra red basil. Going basil crazy! Also sowed some giant and dwarf cape gooseberry in the trays. Sowed some garlic chives in the ground as well as two rows of purple spring onion (which I was really not supposed to do in the middle of my sunniest bed... forever an eager beaver). Then finally I sowed some black peony poppies in a container.

 

Went out at 06:30 and dug up/root pruned five Elaeagnus. Had a right faff trying to get them wrapped so they would fit in the car (three of them are between 5ft and 7ft), but we got there in the end and the 'customer' has been emailed and informed that his delivery will arrive between 12:00 and 13:00 (he only lives about 15 mins away).

Just in time too because it's now belting down.
